BIKEWAYS COMMITTEE
Minutes of August 3, 2011 Meeting
The meeting was called to order at 8:15 AM.
Present: Cocchiola, Dobek, Donahoe, Giblin, Parmelee, Schofield
Absent: (none)
The minutes of July 6, 2011 were approved as presented.
Old Business
- Review of Open Meeting Law changes. Bob Donahoe distributed hard copies of a list of ten changes as provided by the town.
- PMC August 7. Bob reviewed location assignments. He met with Deputy Police Chief Roderick and learned that there will be six officers in Eastham; this may include officers from other Cape towns as police will be working together to increase coverage for the outer Cape. Late riders will be directed to the Brackett Street light for crossing Route 6. Bob distributed a list and will deliver supplies for route guides in Eastham.
- Recreation Department family bike workshop. No one signed up so it is cancelled. The Recreation Department will be asked to notify us if they plan future biking events.
- Fence at T-time Driving Range. Paul Schofield says that part of the fence abutting the Rail Trail is falling down and golf balls are landing on the trail. Paul will contact the driving range personally and report this issue.
New Business
- Mike Giblin commented favorably on the return of the Rail Trail crosswalk signs at Brackett, Old Orchard and Samoset. Bob will send a note of thanks to the police chief with a copy to DPW and town administration.
- The Map Sign at Brackett has been reinforced.
- An email regarding a program called Basics of Better Biking has been received by bikeways members from Mass Bike. The committee discussed it briefly but agreed that the expense ($55) would likely not be acceptable to the public so our committee will not promote it.
The Committee will meet next on 7 September 2011.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:01 AM.
Respectfully submitted,
Judy Parmelee, Clerk
