EASTHAM BOARD OF ASSESSORS
Minutes of July 18, 2011 Meeting
Doreen Cahill called the meeting of the Board of Assessors to order at 10:00 a.m. in the Small Meeting Room.
Present: Assessors Cahill, Sette, and Buffington, and Deputy Assessor Gail McAleer.
The Board met with newly appointed Jared Curtis from the Department of Revenue. Jared will be reviewing the Tax Rate Recapitulation sheet and other financial form submissions from the town. He replaced Barbara Dakin who retired recently.
OLD BUSINESS:
The Board VOTED unanimously to APPROVE the minutes of the January 13, 2011 meeting.
NEW BUSINESS:
Gail McAleer reviewed the annual warrants for the Barnstable County and Cape Cod Commission assessment for FY12. The Board VOTED unanimously to sign the warrants and authorize the Treasurer to pay as indicated.
The Board VOTED unanimously to grant the FY13 application by George F. Handel for continued classification of 11.12 acres at 1765 Massasoit Road under Chapter 61A Agricultural.
The Board VOTED unanimously to authorize seeking approval from the Department of Revenue to issue optional Preliminary Bills for FY12 if necessary. This vote is required prior to August 15th in the event Preliminary Bills are deemed necessary.
Gail McAleer gave a preliminary overview of the FY12 valuation status. Due to the lack of sales in 2010, the Department of Revenue requires that we use 2 years of sales in order to have the required data sample for analysis. The FY12 is an interim year and plans are to submit proposed values to the Department of Revenue by mid August and to have the Classification Hearing on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 in order to have tax bills mailed by October 1, 2011.
