Eastham Affordable Housing Trust
August 2, 2011
Trustees attending: Bill Burt, Selectman John Knight, Matt Wissell, Jim McMakin
Also attending: Selectman Linda Burt, Leedara Zola, Bailey Boyd Associates
Meeting was called to order at 4:00 PM, and Chairman Burt introduced and welcomed new trustee Jim Mc Makin.
Minutes of the July meeting approved, motion made by Wissell and seconded by Burt.
Leedara went over the Herring Brook Rd. property acquisition attempt. The owners decided they did not want to sell and work with the town.
Burt felt a formal letter should go the owners of the Herring Brook Rd. property. The money approved for this project will have to be re-designated. This would require an article on the warrant for Special Town Meeting.
Other discussion prompted by this:
Knight suggested that in the future a set aside of possibly $500K could be done by the CPC, and he thought the focus on getting people into affordable rentals should be a priority.
Leedara updated the trustees on the habitat project, and while it is going forward, the start of construction may be delayed as the Commonwealth was considering de-listing broom crowberry as a species of concern. Habitat wanted to wait to see if this occurs, as it would make placement and construction of the project easier. Leedara was going to check with town counsel on the wording of the article which approved the project to insure the ‘start’ date requirement was fulfilled.
Leedara also noted that work on developing an RFP for the Purcell property was now moving forward.
Burt presented a draft Trust Vision Statement, and after discussion Knight moved the vision statement be adopted recognizing that it should be a ‘work in progress,’
and amended the draft adding a line that would address working with the business community.
Wissell seconded the motion and the vision statement was adopted 4-0.
Leedara offered to make the revision/edits suggested and would send off a copy to Burt.
Burt noted that the trust needed to meet with the BOS in the fall to update them on trust activities and he suggested a presentation to the Eastham Chamber would be wise as well.
Leedara felt that the trust meeting scheduled for next month should be a brainstorming session. That meeting was then scheduled for 4:00 PM on the 13th of September as the usual first Tuesday was the day after the Labor Day Holiday, and some folks would want to have that day free.
With no further business, Knight moved, McMakin seconded to adjourn and it was so voted at 5:20PM
