Asa ‘s and Lori’s applications will be reviewed at that time.
CORRESPONDENCE: Vernon Porter of Provincetown Selectman & a Disability Commission member has been added to our list of Cape Disability Committees/Commissions that receive our Minutes and Agendas.
Maureen Steinmann from Brewster DC requested information on Mobimat. Jeff Dougan of MOD initiated a monthly newsletter in February to update Disability Committees re: legislative issues that potentially impact the disabled community. A March issue was also received.
Richard Adelman, former PACE Chair has moved to North Carolina – no forwarding address yet, but he had requested our Minutes as a Friend of PACE.
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE NEWSLETTER: Grady will contact Jan Moore to find out if our article on the parking regulations/signage got published in the Chamber of Commerce newsletter. Grady will also ask Jan to replace Richard’s name with hers as the PACE contact for the Chamber.
TOWN PROJECTS: Frank had another meeting for 1 PM today despite receiving written and personal reminders of today’s PACE meeting. Grady reported that the propane tank cage at Tedeschi’s has been moved away from the HP space. Mac’s Seafood - still no ramp at the front entrance that was supposed to be done last summer. No report from Frank re: why this hasn’t been completed. Frank had told PACE that Messina’s bathrooms had been made accessible. Lori reported that the four stalls in women’s room are not wide enough for a wheelchair. Condos next to Town Hall – Aimee reported that the condos were sold to a developer who is now working with the Zoning and Planning Boards to iron out permit issues. Parking lot at
Village Green floods near the new entrance when it rains or snow melts.
VISITABILITY/UNIVERSAL DESIGN: Grady has revised the packet on Visitability, that Frank gives out with building permits, to reflect our change-of-name from Visitability to Universal Design. She is working with Lisa in the Administrator’s office to redesign the cover of the booklet. Grady also sent a letter to Sheila Vanderhoef , Town Administrator re: changing the wording in the Town Resolution from Visitability to Universal Design.
BEACHES/RECREATION: Mark Powers reported that the Bay beaches have been badly damaged by the winter storms this year. Erosion is a continuing problem. Future may require creative ways to address parking. The badly damaged bike trail bridge near Coast Guard Beach will not be repaired by this spring. It’s a huge job and there is not enough time. Bikers who parked at Salt Pond Visitors Center and used the bike trail to get to CG Beach will now be using the road, a potentially dangerous situation. The bathhouse at Nauset Light Beach is now about 40 feet from the edge of the dunes. Mark reports that the National Seashore will not replace it when erosion takes its toll. Eastham resident parking spaces at Nauset Light beach will be renegotiated with the National seashore
this fall. The Town collected about $15,000 in parking fines last summer. Mark found many instances of altered stickers/transferred stickers. Beach wheelchairs had good usage last summer. Next month, Grady will contact Little Capistrano Bike Shop to renew their interest in having a beach wheelchair for rental. Asa agreed to be in charge of the PACE members who monitor the Town beaches. Grady will do the Beach Attendant orientation.
PACE BROCHURES: Lori has refilled some brochure holders around Town. Jeanette will do Willy’s Gym, and the Kerns will be asked to take care of the rest.
CORD’S LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE: Aimee is interested in this Committee to promote Universal Design at the State level. Grady will contact Alison Kirwin at CORD and will give her Aimee’s name and contact information.
NEXT MEETING – WEDNESDAY, April 28, 2010 at 1:00 PM in the Large Meeting Room.
