05/08/2008 Water Development Task Force Minutes
Water Development Task Force
MINUTES of May 8, 2008
Town Garage Meeting Room

Meeting was called to order at 7:05 a.m.

In attendance were: Johnny Hanson, Vinnie Susco, Melissa Engel, Bob Heidel and Bob Drewry, Ted Hintz Jr, and Peter Aarrestad., John Tuttle arrived at 7:20 a.m.  Mark Barmasse was absent.

Minutes of 4/25/08 were approved. Motion made by Mr. Hanson, 2nd by Mr. Aarrestad to approve. Vote was unanimous to approve.

The WDTF asked Mr. Drewry to review the bidding process for the construction work connected with the Consent Order for the Village Water System with the Council at its meeting on May 13th.  Mr. Susco has contacted three firms qualified to do the work and has prepared detailed information packets for them to be used as RFP’s.  This will streamline the bidding process enabling the work to be done within the time constraints of the state’s Consent Order.

The WDTF recommendations regarding land acquisitions needed for the future centralized water system will be presented to the Council in executive session with Atty. Jean D’Aquila in a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. on May 13th.

A discussion ensued regarding the use of the Middle Haddam School as a site for the treatment facility for a centralized water system.  The WDTF agreed that the school was not the best site for the treatment facility because of the cost to renovate the building, cost to extend the piping $480,000, and the loss of sewering opportunities in Cobalt center.  A letter will be sent to Mr. Rossi thanking him for the offer and notifying him of the opinion.
There was nothing new to report on the Library well site.

Meeting adjourned at 8 a.m. Motion made by Mr. Hintz, 2nd by Mr.Hanson.

Respectfully submitted,

Melissa H. Engel
