Minutes
Present: Chairperson Melissa Engel, Vice Chairman Thomas Cordeiro (arrived 5:55p.m.) and members, William Devine, Christopher Goff (via telephone), Scott Minnick and Susan Weintraub. Also present were members of the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board, Town Manager Jeffery O’Keefe, Recording Secretary Cathy Sirois, members of the press and citizens.
Not Present: John Tuttle
Call to Order: Chairperson Engel called the Public Hearing to order at 5:47 p.m.
Joint Presentation to Town Council and Parks & Recreation Advisory Board on Sears Park Master Plan by Ferrero Hixon: Ruth Plummer, Parks & Recreation Director, introduced Chris Hixon and Stephanie White of Ferrero Hixon Associates. Mr. Hixon provided an overview of the Sears Park Master Plan including the existing park features and the new proposed plan for the park.
Rich Norkun, Chairman of the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board, noted that the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board would like to be included in the Building Committee, as they were during the construction of the High School Athletic Complex.
Mr. Cordeiro noted his concern regarding the retaining wall and sight issues over the wall.
Mr. Norkun commented that removing the jetty would allow for better water flow along the beach.
John Wright, Parks & Recreation Advisory Board member, asked about the depth of the water at the proposed boat launch.
Mr. Minnick noted his concern for the traffic and noise generated with the proposed driveway traversing the area near the entrance to the park.
The Special Meeting concluded at 6:30 p.m.
