Minutes


Present:  Jeremy Hall, Shawn Mullen, Deb Mckinney, Sheryl Dougherty, Jessica Rurka, Dan Roy

Call to Order:  Deb Mckinney called the meeting to order.   

Approval of the minutes of the February 5th, Regular Meeting
Sheryl Dougherty motioned to approve the minutes.  Jessica Rurka seconded.  All approved.   

Audience of Citizens

Communications
  • Proposed bill No. 7004 Concussion Education
Jeremy Hall discussed the bill and what it would mean for the Parks and Recreation Department.  We will wait to see if it passes.  
  • Minimum Wage phase increase
This proposal at the state level could have a large negative impact on the Parks and Recreation Department should it pass.  The Connecticut Recreation and Parks Association and the Legislative Committee are looking into the possible impacts.  
  • Tax on Recreation Activities
We are not sure at this time if this proposed tax will effect municipalities or just private providers.  

Committee Reports
  • Air Line Trail Sub Committee
Dan Roy summarized what was discussed at the Airline Trail meeting.  


Unfinished Business
  • Seamster Park Playground Update
  • Golf tournament
The Golf tournament has been scheduled and we are looking for sponsorships.  The event registration is online now.  
  • Air Line Trail Update
  • Proposed bill No. 775
Jeremy hall summarized the bill.  
  • Recreation space at Sears Park
The board is discussing what to do with the open court at Sears Park.  
  • Program update
Shawn Mullen gave a report on the status of Parks and Recreation Programs.  Summer programs will start going online as they are finalized.
