Unfinished Business
  • Seamster Park Playground Fundraising opportunities
Jeremy Hall presented the design plans of the playground and asked for people to come up with ideas on what they would like to see added, changed, or eliminated in an effort to save some of the cost.  Members will look over the design and present any ideas to Jeremy.   The playground committee members then discussed fundraising ideas in a brainstorming session.  Some ideas included selling magnets or pint glasses, the existing brick selling idea, auctions, bikeathon, trikeathon, run with Santa, flower sales, penny war, golf tournament, skateathon, skate with the Wolfpack.  The Parks and Recreation staff will organize all ideas and put them into a quarterly calendar.  Other ideas are encouraged to be submitted to the Parks and Recreation Department.
  • Winter Programs
Shawn Mullen gave a report on upcoming winter programing including Youth Basketball, Skating and Hockey Programs, and a new program offering weekly ski/snowboard trips to Powder Ridge in February.
  • Sears Park maintenance/water shut off
The new berm that was installed on the boat launch side of the park has been effective.  The other side of the park is still and issue that needs to be addressed.  3 trees need to be removed from the park that are dead, and a few others trimmed up before the spring and summer season.  Jeremy Hall is also looking into replacing the boat launch ramp.  There is approx.. $22,000 in the boat launch improvement fund for this project.  This project is something that would need to go out to bid.  The upper parking area on the boat launch side also needs to be replaced.

New Business
  • Ice Hockey/Figure Skate Lessons
The Parks and Recreation Department has purchased a skating rink that will be located on the Sears Park basketball Court for the winter months and we are planning to offer hockey programs and skating lessons, as well as open skating time.
  • Skate Park Removal/New Ideas
The skate park at Sears Park is in disrepair and very under –utilized by the public.  Jeremy Hall asked the board for ideas of what else we could use that space for.  Ideas included a multi-use sport cours, deck hockey area, pickle ball court.  Tim Adams motioned to remove the skate park equipment and investigate other ideas that can be installed there that would bring more use to the park.  Deb Mckinney seconded the motion.  All approved.
  • Part Time Program Staff responsibilities
Tabled until next meeting.  The Parks and Recreation department is looking to hire a part time program helper.
  • Meeting dates for 2017
Meetings will continue to be the first Tuesday of the month at 4:30PM for every month other than July (no meeting in July).  Tim Adams motioned and Dan Roy seconded.  All approved.
