Parks and Recreation Advisory Board

Minutes

Present:  Rich Norkun, John Wright, Dan Reilly, Deb Mckinney, Alan Hurst, Jeremy Hall, Shawn Mullen

Call to Order:  Rich Norkun called the meeting to order.  

Approval of the minutes of the June 7th Regular Meeting and the July 19th special meeting on Seamster Park Playground:  Deb Mckinney motioned to approve each of the sets of minutes.  John Wright seconded.  All approved.  

Audience of Citizens:  Cheryl Dougherty spoke about programing and facilities for Middle School aged kids.  There will be an item on the next agenda.  

Communications:  None


Unfinished Business
  • Seamster Park Playground motion to approve builder
Dan Reilly motioned to approve the community build by Play by Design.  Deb Mckinney seconded the motion.  All approved.  
  • Sears Park improvements
Jeremy Hall went over the scheduled improvements to the parking areas at Sears Park.  
  • Program update
Shawn Mullen gave a report on the status of Parks and Recreation Programs.  


New Business
  • Old School House Project possible motion to approve
Jeremy Hall presented the details of a possible Recreation Center at the old Middle Haddam School.  Rich Norkun suggested that we table this to the next meeting to get more information and details about the possible project.  
  • 250th Anniversary
Jeremy Hall presented the town’s plans for the 250th year celebration.  
  • Skate Park at Sears Park
The Parks and Recreation Department is looking into ideas on what to do about the Skate Park at Sears Park.  Some options were discussed.  This will remain on the agenda for future meetings.  
  • Happiest Paddler property
The Happiest Paddle is believed to be going on the market for sale soon.  This location may be a good location for the town to purchase.
