Minutes

Present:  Director; Ruth Checko, Program Coordinator; Shawn Mullen
Chairperson; Rich Norkun, Vice Chairperson; John Wright, Tim Adams, Len Heroux, Deb Mckinney.  

Call to Order:  Rich Norkun called to order the June 3, 2014 Regular Meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.   

Approval of the minutes of the March 4, 2014 Regular Meeting and special meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board:  Len Heroux motioned to approve the minutes.  John Wright seconded the motion.  All approved (5-0).  

Audience of Citizens:  None

Communications
  • Recreational Space Report
Ruth Checko explained the report.  All members were sent a copy of the report.  
  • Letter from Lewis Fowler-Gerace
The letter was discussed.  The Advisory Board would like to put a policy in writing that sailing and crew teams need to follow.  

Director’s Report:  Addressed in New and Unfinished Business

Unfinished Business
  • Partnership with Senior Center, Commission on Aging, and Parks and Recreation for “Boomer” programming
This is an ongoing project.  We are looking at new ideas for fall programs for this age group.  
  • High School Athletic Field Lighting Update
This project is complete.  
  • Court Sports in Village Center
There has been no progress.  The Advisory Board recommends to remove this from the agenda.  
  • Ideas for after-school program for Middle School age kids
The Parks and Recreation Department is working on this for the fall or winter season.  Shawn Mullen is meeting with East Hampton Middle School this week on ideas.  
  • Recreation space needs assessment discussion
The needs assessment was discussed.  

New Business
  • Retaining wall at beach in Sears Park damage
Ruth Checko presented the plans to fix this problem.  There is an invitation to bid this Friday.  
  • Board of Finance discussion to set policies on special revenue accounts
There is no update on this at this time.  
  • Department budget status
The mowing budget was put back into the Parks and Recreation Budget.  Other than this the Operating Budget remained the same.  
  • Schoolhouse Park improvement
This project is out to bid.  The contract will be awarded Tuesday.  
  • Tennis court repairs
The Tennis Courts at both the High School and Sears Park are not in good shape and will be repaired by Vermont Recreational.  The plan is to have them fixed in June/July.

  • Recreational Facility
Nothing further at this time.  

Adjournment:  Len Heroux motioned to adjourn the meeting.  Deb Mckinney seconded the motion.  All approved (5-0).
