Present:  Chairperson; Rich Norkun, Vice Chairperson; John Wright, Deb Mckinney, Dan Roy, Mark Vickery, Tim Adams and Program Coordinator; Shawn Mullen

Call To Order:  Rich Norkun called to order the September 3, 2013 Regular Meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.

Approval of the minutes of the August 6, 2013 regular meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board:  John Wright motioned to approve the minutes.  Dan Roy seconded.  All approved.   

Audience of Citizens:  None

Communications
  • Letter of support from the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board on High School Field Lighting Project.  
Everyone received a copy of the letter.  

Director’s Report:  Shawn Mullen gave a report on the status of Parks and Recreation operations.  

Unfinished Business
  • Sears Park improvement project – storm water runoff remediation
The department is looking into some ideas for plantings that may help the problem we are having with the rain garden.  There will be another update at the next meeting.    
  • Partnership with Senior Center, Commission on Aging, and Parks and Recreation for “Boomer” programming
Shawn is working with instructors to add this to Fall and Winter programming.  
  • High School Athletic Field Lighting
Board of Finance voted to allocate $200,000 for lighting on the main soccer field at East Hampton High School.  A timeline was handed out to all board members.  
  • Court Sports in Village Center
Tim Adams has passed some information on the Ruth Plummer about this.  Ruth is looking into this.  
  • Middle School Athletic Field Project
This project was completed
  • Concession Stand
Shawn Mullen updated the Advisory Board on the status of the concession stand.  It operated at a loss again this season.  

New Business
  • Wrap up of Summer 2013 Season
Shawn Mullen gave a report wrapping up the summer season.  
  • Social Media Launch
A facebook page has been created for the department.  It will go live along with the fall program brochure in early October.  
  • Priorities and Objectives for 2013-2014
We have set some priorities and objectives for the 2013 – 2014 year at the direction of the Town Manager.  

Other Concerns
  • Rain Garden in Sears Park:  See Unfinished Business
  • Tim Adams brought up some questions about youth basketball regarding how the age groups are split up, and if it is possible to separate boys and girls at the grade 2 and 3 level.  Shawn Mullen will look up the numbers and see if any changes are necessary.  
 
Committee Reports
  • Recreational Facility:  Nothing further at this time.
