Present:  Chairperson; Rich Norkun, Vice Chairperson; John Wright, Dan Roy, Tim Adams, Mark Vickery, Len Heroux, Director; Ruth Plummer, Program Coordinator; Shawn Mullen

Call To Order:  Rich Norkun called to order the March 5, 2013 Regular Meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.   

Approval of the minutes of the February 5, 2013 regular meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board:  Dan Roy motioned to approve the minutes of the February 5, 2013 meeting.  Len Heroux seconded the motion.  All approved (6-0).    

Audience of Citizens:  None

Communications:  None

Director’s Report:  Ruth Plummer gave a report on the status of Parks and Recreation Operations.  Everyone received a copy.  

Unfinished Business
  • Sears Park improvement project – storm water runoff remediation
We have worked closely with Anchor Engineering to get this project out to bid at the end of the month.  Bids are due by March 11.  We hope to have bids awarded by April.  
  • Land Bequest
Nothing further at this time
  • Department Proposed Budget 2013-2014 FY
The budget went through
  • Partnership with Senior Center, Commission on Aging, and Parks and Recreation for “Boomer” programming
Nothing further at this time.  Shawn Mullen is working on this.  

New Business
  • Marketing plans for brochure and Sears Park summer
We are focused on organizing and planning the spring and summer season.  We worked with a graphic artist to update the program brochure and establish a theme for the summer.  The brochure will be out in early April.  
  • Closing out of O’Neill Gazebo grant
The state has granted an extension on the project to allow the town to wrap up the details.  
  • Hiring of summer staff procedures
Administrative staff worked with Human Resources to update all summer employment information
  • Playground equipment Sears Park   
Ruth Plummer is working with Megan O’Brien to purchase some new play equipment.  We hope to have it installed by June 1.
