Minutes

Present:  Chairperson; Rich Norkun, Vice Chairperson; John Wright, Deb Mckinney, Dan Roy, Tim Adams.
Also Present:  Director; Ruth Plummer, Program Coordinator; Shawn Mullen

Call To Order:  Rich Norkun called to order the November 6, 2012 Regular Meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.   

Approval of the minutes of the October 2, 2012 regular meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board:  Deb Mckinney motioned to approve the minutes of the October 2, 2012 Regular Meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board with one change.  John Wright’s name is listed incorrectly.  Dan Roy seconded the motion.  All approved (5-0).    

Audience of Citizens:  High School Students

Communications: None  

Director’s Report:  Ruth Plummer gave her director’s report, everyone was given a copy.  Shawn Mullen gave a report on the status of Parks and Recreation Programs.  Everyone was given a copy.  

Unfinished Business
  • Governor William O’Neil Performing Arts Gazebo update
There is currently $17,000 left in the budge, alternatives such as curtains and lighting are being looked at.  
  • Survey for recreational needs
We have 146 responses so far.  A report on the results will be at the next meeting.  
  • Gazebo use policies and procedures
The policy will be addressed at the next meeting, it depends on what is decided on curtains, lighting etc….
  • Potential properties for parks
Ruth Plummer completed a report for Town Council that will be available next month.  The report needs to be seen by Town Council first.  
  • Sears Park improvement project – storm water runoff remediation
Site Plans and documents are ready.  The project will most likely start in the spring.  
  • Open space at 140 Colchester Ave.  
Ruth Plummer will walk this area soon.  

New Business:  None

Other Concerns:  Ruth Plummer has been directed to look into doing something with the Middle Haddam tennis courts.  Walleye were stocked in Lake Pocotopaug in October.  The pavilion and bath house have been painted.

  • Recreational Facility:  Nothing further at this time.  
Adjournment:  Dan Roy motioned to adjourn the meeting, Deb Mckinney seconded the motion.  All approved (5-0).
