Present Board Members:  Chairperson, Rich Norkun; Vice Chairperson, John Wright; Len Heroux, Mark Vickery, Daniel Roy, Deb Mckinney
Also Present: Director, Ruth Plummer;  Program Coordinator, Shawn Mullen

Call To Order:  Rich Norkun called to order the May 4, 2010 Regular Meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board to order.  


Approval of the minutes of the March 2, 2010 regular meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board :  John Wright motioned to approve the Minutes of the March 2, 2010 Regular Meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.  Len Heroux seconded the motion.  All approved (6-0).  

Audience of Citizens:  None

Communications
  • Agenda Report from Ruth Plummer regarding Old Marlborough Road Property.
Ruth Plummer has not heard anything else about this.  
  •  Letter from Jeff O’Keefe to Debra McKinney regarding Parks and Recreation Advisory Board appointment.
The letter was discussed and everyone has a copy.  
  • Thank you letter from Shawn Mullen to Shaun Russell.  
The letter was discussed and everyone has a copy.  

Director’s Report:  Ruth Plummer gave her director’s report.  Everyone has a copy.  

Unfinished Business
  • Sears Park 100th Anniversary planning
Ruth Plummer and Shawn Mullen discussed the department’s plans for this special event.  
  • 2010 – 2011 Budget
Budget voting is today.  
  • Navigation ordinance recommendation
Ruth Plummer and Rich Norkun are on the task force for this project.  Right now the solution seems to be education, publicity and public relations.  
  • Governor William O’Neil Amphitheater     
Ruth Plummer gave some background on this topic.  The State has approved the Memorial Amphitheater for Sears Park.  We do not know much more than this at this point.  

New Business.:  None


Other Concerns
  • Len Heroux made a request on behalf of Babe Ruth Baseball to have the mound at the Middle School left up until the end of July for baseball games.  Ruth Plummer made note of this and will accommodate Babe Ruth Baseball’s needs.  
  • Daniel Roy discussed the Middle Haddam Boat Launch, and asked if there has been any progress on this issue.  Ruth Plummer will look into some new signage for the area, and a cleanup is necessary after some of the rain and winds that we have had lately.
