Minutes
Present Board Members:  
Chairperson; Jim Wild, Vice Chairperson; Rich Norkun, Tim Csere, John Wright, Mark Vickery.  Also present:  Director; Ruth Plummer, Program Coordinator; Shawn Mullen

Call To Order:  
Jim Wild called to order the November 4, 2008 regular meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.  

Approval of the minutes of October 7, 2008 minutes:
Tim Csere motioned to approve the minutes of the October 7, 2008 regular meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.  Rich Norkun seconded.  All approved one abstained (4-0-1).

Director’s Report  
Shawn Mullen gave a report on the status of Parks and Recreation Programs.  Everyone has a copy of the report.  

Unfinished business
  • Sears Park Boat Launch update
Nothing further to report at this time.  
  • Air Line Trail updates
Public works has laid new stone dust down from the trail head at Cranbury Bog to the Colchester Town line.  
  • Phosphorous education
Ruth Plummer is working on a late fall/early winter publication of Lake Notes and News.  
  • Master plan for Sears Park
Director Ruth Plummer presented the members with an outline of the Sears Park Improvements process.  It was agreed a master plan prior to any improvement to the park was necessary. Discussion followed about how this should not detract from the upcoming 100th Anniversary Celebrations in May of 2010.  After this discussion: Vice Chairperson Rich Norkun made the following motion: The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board recommends that the Town Council support and acknowledge that The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board will work with the Parks and Recreation Director on the Sears Park Improvement Project, periodically advising the Town Council on the progress in the same manner historically expected of them on all matters involving Sears Park. Chairperson Jim Wild seconded the motion. All approved 5-0.


New Business
  • 09-10 Department Budget
Ruth Plummer has begun preparing the 2009-2010 Parks and Recreation Budget.  
Other Concerns
Rich Norkun is concerned about the growing size of the Parks and Recreation over 35 basketball program.  Shawn Mullen will look into possible solutions and report back at the next meeting.

Tim Csere motioned to adjourn the November 4, 2008 regular meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.  John Wright seconded the motion.  All approved (5-0).
