  • Public hearings:
a.      Application #461, filed by Michael and Denise Scranton, regarding 15 Schoolhouse Lane Road, to install new architectural shingles on house.

Michael Scranton presented.  After a brief discussion, it was confirmed that the current wood shingles on the entire house roof would be replaced with Timberline Weatherwood shingles.  Mr. Scranton confirmed that plywood sheathing will be replaced and an ice/water shield will also be installed before applying the shingles.

Richard Walsh moved to approve the application as presented.  The motion was seconded by David Kneeland.  Motion Carried 4-0-0.

b.      Application #462, filed by Julie Amaral, regarding 12 Keighley Pond Road, to replace windows, install lamp posts and replace front door.

Julie Amaral presented.  After a discussion, Ms. Amaral would like to install new vinyl clad windows in her converted barn home.  Commissioner Royster suggested that she use a more period type window with visible, paintable outer panes/grids.  Commissioner Walsh advised Ms. Amaral that he contacted Traditional Innovations and confirmed they can offer suitable materials.  Ms. Amaral stated she would contact them to find a different style window and would also find appropriate materials for the proposed lamp posts and front door.

This matter was tabled to the next regular scheduled meeting and Ms. Amaral will contact Commissioner Walsh if she has new materials to present to the MHHDC.  The MHHDC will not require additional application fees for this matter but would like Ms. Amaral to submit a supplemental application.

James Royster moved to deny the application without prejudice that the applicant can come back to discuss this matter at the November meeting with more information.  The motion was seconded by Colleen Mellen.  Motion Carried 4-0-0.

The Commissioners reviewed and discussed the handbook with regard to the type of windows required for older structures and found that the handbook advises that the material must be compatible of the period in design and appearance of the time the structure was built.
