MIDDLE HADDAM HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING
Thursday, March 24, 2011 @ 6:30 p.m.
Location:  Eaton Smith Meeting Room – East Hampton
Minutes

  • Call to order – Chairman Royster called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.
  • Roll Call / Seating of Alternates – Roll call was taken.  Present were Commissioners James Royster, Richard Walsh, Charles Roberts, David Kneeland and alternate Commissioners Colleen Mellen and Demian Battit.  Not present was Gina Ritchie and Christopher Dart.  Commissioner Royster seated alternate Commissioner Demian Battit.
  • Public Remarks – Items Not on Agenda –   None
  • Public hearings:
a.      Application #449, filed by Ted and Sheila Earl and Suzanne Bull, regarding 29 School House Lane, to pave existing driveway.

After a brief discussion, Commissioner Walsh confirmed with the applicants that the entire driveway will be paved.  Richard Walsh moved to approve the application as presented.  The motion was seconded by Charles Roberts.  Motion Carried 5-0-0.

b.  Application #450, filed by Maureen Fahey and Rob Dietz, regarding 11 High Point Road, to add a three season room to rear of existing house.

Suzanne Bull presented.  After a discussion, Charles Roberts moved to approve the application as presented with Exhibits A and B as possibilities, depending on which plan the homeowners decide to do.  The motion was seconded by Demian Battit.  Commissioner Walsh moved to amend the motion, seconded by David Kneeland, to include the dimensions of the addition.  Motion Carried 6-0-0.  Richard Walsh moved to approve the application for an addition 20’ x 17 ½’ with an alternate A (with a beveled corner) and B (with a square corner).  The motion was seconded by Demian Battit.  Motion Carried 5-0-0.

5.    Approval of minutes and motions
c.      Minutes and motions for the regular meeting on February 24, 2011 were reviewed.  The minutes were approved as presented.

8.   New Business – Commissioner Roberts lead a discussion regarding the definition of like-kind and
      whether there is documentation stating when an application is required.
  • Other – Commissioner Royster confirmed that the application instructions must be for the exterior
       appearance only and will make a motion a the next regular meeting to revise the application
instructions.

                        Motion Carried 5-0-0.
