MIDDLE HADDAM HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION
Special MEETING
Wednesday, September 8, 2010 @ 6:30 p.m.
Location:  Eaton Smith Meeting Room – East Hampton
Minutes

  • Call to order – Chairman Royster was not present.  The meeting was opened and chaired by Commissioner Richard Walsh, Clerk MHHDC, who called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.
  • Roll Call / Seating of Alternates – Roll call was taken.  Present were Commissioners Richard Walsh and Charles Roberts, and alternate Commissioners Colleen Mellen and Demian Battit.  Not present was James Royster, Gina Ritchie, Christopher Dart, David Kneeland and George Coshow.  Commissioner Walsh seated alternate Commissioners Colleen Mellen and Demian Battit.

  • Public Remarks – Items Not on Agenda –   None
  • New Business:  
a.  Application # 439, filed by Christopher Dart, , regarding 96 Middle Haddam Road, to install a new
    storm door.

Christopher Dart presented the commission with material from the proposed storm door, Pella Select Model 6000 which will be the same color as the house.  The storm door is being installed due to a large crack in the existing front door and to provide insulation from the weather.  Commissioner Roberts asked if the door allows for either a full screen or glass.  Mr. Dart confirmed that it does.  Commissioner Battit asked if it is split or full glass.  Mr. Dart confirmed that it is a full glass panel where the entire frame will be seen.  Commissioner Roberts moved to approve the application for the installation of the storm door as presented by Mr. Dart.  The motion was seconded by Colleen Mellen.  Motion Carried 4-0-0.

  • Application # 440, filed by Richard Napoletano on behalf of Christ Episcopal Church,
regarding 60 &66 Middle Haddam Rd., to remove and replace roofing on church and rectory and to do certain painting work.

Richard Napoletano provided samples of the proposed roofing material, GAF Timberline Architectural shingles, color is Shakewood.  This material is to be used on both buildings.  

Commissioner Mellen moved to approve the application for the removal and replacement of shingles as presented by Mr. Napoletano.  The motion was seconded by Charles Roberts.  Motion Carried 4-0-0.

  • Approval of minutes and motions
  • Regular Meeting minutes and motions for the August 26, 2010 meeting were reviewed.  The
minutes were approved with one change.  Section 6, “Commissioners” Royster should be Commissioner.  Commissioner Mellen made a motion to accept the minutes as amended.  The motion was seconded by Demian Battit.  Motion Carried 4-0-0.

  • Correspondence –
  • Other – Commissioner Walsh reported that two (2) applications have been received.  Application #441 from Charles Roberts regarding the driveway at 119 Middle Haddam Road, and Application #442 from Derek Hyde regarding the driveway at 55 Middle Haddam Road.  These applications will be discussed at the next regular meeting.
The commission also discussed the next regular scheduled meeting which was set forth in the calendar to be held on Thursday, September 23, 2010 at 6:30 p.m.  On August 26, 2010, the commission discussed holding the regular meeting on September 30, 2010.  Richard Walsh informed the commission that the meeting must be held on September 23, 2010 and will proceed with the original scheduled date.
