LAKE POCOTOPAUG COMMISSION
Regular Meeting
January 15, 2008 – 7:00 pm
Eaton E. Smith Meeting Room – Town Hall

MINUTES

Present:  Chairman John Ciriello, Tom Wells, Jack Solomon, Irene Curtis, Paul Peszynski
Absent:  John Jordan
Also Present:  Recording Secretary Patricia Kratochvil, and members from the public John Wallace, and Patience Anderson

1.  Call to Order and Roll Call
Chairman Ciriello called the meeting to order at 7:03 pm.  Roll was taken.  At the time there were no changes to the agenda.

2.  Approval of Minutes of Previous Meeting

Irene Curtis moved to accept the December 18, 2008 minutes.  The motion was seconded by Tom Wells.                                      Motion Carried 5-0-0

Jack Solomon moved to accept the January 12, 2009 minutes.  The motion was seconded by Tom Wells.                                       Motion Carried 5-0-0

3.  Public Remarks – John Wallace, 33 Depot Hill Road, Cobolt.  He believes that the walleye fish are thriving in Lake Pocotopaug.  He has caught walleyes through ice fishing only in the range of 19 to 26 inch.  He does not want the program to end.  Further discussion ensued on the subject.

4.  Presentation – Chairman Ciriello gave a power point presentation on the Impact of Urbanization.

5.  Remarks from the Chair
Algae Sampling Contract (attached) – John Ciriello had a quick discussion with Jeffrey O’Keefe who stated he has not had a chance to review the contract.
Chatham Health District (attached) – septic system monitoring program
Budget – Chairman Ciriello reported that monthly updates will be available to the commission.

6.  Administrative Business and Communications

        A.  Town Managers Report – not present
                1.  Hale Brook Dredging – Chairman Ciriello gave an update.
                2.  Other – None

7.  Commission Liaison Reports
Jack Solomon had nothing to report.  Paul Peszynski had nothing to report.  Irene Curtis had nothing to report.  Tom Wells had nothing to report.  John Ciriello reported on the January 13, 2009 Town Council meeting.  He questioned the Town Council on the filling of a vacancy.  He was told that the vacancy should be filled next week.  

8.  Committee Reports
        A.  Education Committee
A discussion took place on what presentations would be given to which organizations.
        B.  Monitoring Committee
Committee waiting for Town Manager to look at contract.  Boat has been obtained for use for sampling.  John Wallace has offered his help with his gas powered auger.  
        C.  Lake Management Planning Committee – Plan Update
Tom Wells presented a draft of a work in progress.  The committee reviewed the draft.

        A. Spring and Summer Projects – None
        B.  Lake Clean Up Date
A discussion of a Lake Clean Up Day date took place with the commission.  The commission decided on April 25, 2009 as a clean up day.

Old Home Day – There is a free booth for the Lake Pocotopaug.  Chairman Ciriello wants to meet with the parks department to make sure that everyone is working together.
Lake Fair – A discussion on a lake fair at Sears Park with demonstrations was held.  The commission members will put more ideas together.

12. Public Remarks
Patience Anderson will relay to the Conservation Commission the Old Home Day and Lake Fair work that the Lake Pocotopaug Commission is considering.  Her thought is maybe the two commissions can work together on one or both events.
13.  Adjournment
Jack Solomon moved to adjourn at 9:50 pm.  The motion was seconded by Tom Wells.                                                                Motion carried.  5-0-0
