BOARD OF FIRE COMMISSION
Regular Meeting
July 12, 2010
MINUTES

Present: Chairman David Simko, Richard Brown and Leroy Goff

Absent:  Dean Michelson and Richard Dufour

Others Present:  Chief Stephen Palmer, Deputy Chief Greg Voelker, Fire Marshal Visintainer, Rich Klotzbier, Hunt Voelker.

Chairman David Simko called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. at Company #1 on Barton Hill Road.

Approval of Minutes:  
 
A motion was made by Leroy Goff and seconded by Richard Brown to accept the minutes of the June Regular meeting minutes as presented. Vote 3-0 approved.

  • Communications:  None.
  • Public Remarks:  None.
  • Fire Marshal Phil Visintainer’s Report: The Fire Marshal’s report is attached and made part of these minutes.
  • Deputy Fire Marshal Rich Klotzbier -  Rich Klotzbier said that as and incentive to have more of the high school students attend the trailer at the Old Home Day  Celebration a $50 gift certificate was given to 5 senior high school students for the bookstore of their future college.
  • Fire Chief Stephen Palmer’s Report: The Chief’s report is attached and made part of
these minutes.


        
Old Business:

  • Engine 2-12 -  Chairman Simko stated that he received a letter from Deputy Chief Voelker with regard to Engine 2-12 being pulled out of service for further inspection so soon after coming back from Pierce. Deputy Chief Voelker re-capped his letter for the rest of the Commissioners. A discussion followed. The Commissioners asked that it be decided whether there is a lack of confidence in the truck repair facility and if so then the truck needs to be looked at by another vendor. Richard Brown asked that the Commissioners be kept informed after the Chiefs and Dan Burdick meet about the issues.  Chief Palmer also mentioned that he is in the process of finding out who will pay for the work done as a result of this inspection.
  • Pickup Truck–Chairman Simko reported that the department is all set to purchase the truck.  The state bid will be investigated in August as there are no 2010 Ford F350s available now. We will also look to private dealers to see if we can get a better deal.
  • Hurst Tool – Richard Brown mentioned that he has been looking to get equipment donated to the department and would like to get the information. Chief Palmer suggested that a request be put together for the hurst kit.  Chairman Simko asked that something be put together including a list of the equipment and prices and given to Dr. Brown as soon as possible.
  • Beneficiary Forms–  Chairman Simko said that at this time the forms are still coming in updating the beneficiary forms and will be kept in the Chiefs office.
  • Cranberry Bog/Smith Street Pump Testing – Chairman Simko asked that a pump test be done as soon as possible, so if need be it can be repaired at low water.  The damn will be set soon and the water will rise.,
  • Physicals – Chief Palmer stated that they are looking into a new group for next years physicals.
  • FEMA Grant – Chairman Simko stated that letters will be sent to the legislators, senators and congressmen asking for support.
New Business:
  • Boat Parade- Chairman Simko asked if the fireboat would be in the boat parade in August.
A motion was made by Leroy Goff and seconded by Richard Brown to adjourn the regular meeting at 7:45p.m.  Vote 3-0 all in favor.
