MINUTES  

Present:  Chair Rich Leone, Todd Schrager, Cindy Rooth, Kimberley Fontaine.

Absent:  Jack Solomon, Diane Bohmiller

Also Present:  Kerry Nielson, Director of Community and Environmental Planning; Jennifer Carducci, Recording Secretary.  

1.  Call to Order

Chair Leone called this regular meeting of the East Hampton Economic Development Commission at 6:35 p.m.

2.  Approval of Minutes

A motion was made by Mr. Schrager to approve the Regular Meeting of March 15, 2011 minutes; seconded by Ms. Rooth, Vote: Yes: 3; No: 0, Abstain: 1-Fontaine (due to absence), motion passed.

3.  Announcements - None

4.  Town Manager/Town Council Liaison/Community Dev. Director

Ms. Nielson advised the Commission of the successful cleanup day put on by the EDC.  She also mentioned that the contractor for the Rails to Trails extension has been selected.

7.  EDC Liaison Reports

     a.  Summary discussion of other Board and Committee activity - None

    b.  Village Center meeting 1-19-11 – Discussed at last meeting.

8.  Old Business

  • Mary Dickerson presentation 12-2-10 – recommendations and plan of implementation
A more in-depth discussion will be held on this topic at a later meeting.  Ms. Rooth will obtain a list of the businesses in Town and will forward to the Committee.  

  • Business of the Month/Grand Opening Banners – approval for use of logo and Mimi sign proposal
Chair Leone has been in touch with Mimi.  Grand Opening for 5/6-7 – Anything Goes.

c.  Holiday event/parade/tree lighting post-mortem – Already discussed

d.  STEAP Grant(s) implementation – proposal review – Already discussed

e .  Home Based Business Expo – Spring/Fall –

A brief discussion occurred.  Ms. Fontaine stated that East Hampton does not have an ordinance for/supporting home-based businesses.  Ms. Rooth is compiling a list of home-based businesses.  

  • Blight Ordinance Plans/Comments/Suggestions
Issues discussed were enforcement and absentee landlords.  

9.  New Business

  • Planning for Spring Village Center Initiatives now
The Strawberry Festival 6-11-11 has quite a few vendors and bands coming.  On 6-4-11, there will be an art festival in the church parking lot.  
      
b. Other

Discussion ensued regarding the wayfinding signs and directional arrows to the Village Center.  Also discussed was signage to be placed along and at the end of the new Trail section.  DEP has its own signage for the trail itself.  

Another breakfast meeting will be discussed at a later meeting; and there is a business expo coming in June.
