Brochure sent to commission from the CT Dept of Agriculture regarding the Farm link Program. No discussion Newsletter from Middlesex Land Trust: no discussion.
Earth day; Discussion took place about the huge success of Earth Day. There was a good turn out and the Humane Society was a big success. People picked up garbage around the lake area. Cans were collected by the hiking club, Girl Scouts helped the humans society by collecting blankets and toys for the animals. The lake commission was present and took part in the activities. Due to the success this year Jean Moran has booked the Humane Society for next year as well as the trash museum.
Land acquisition sub committee has not met at this point to our knowledge. Jean Moran has field cards on the Pine Brook Land and will bring to our next meeting. The Pine Brook (Markham estate) is located on 200 acres near Chestnut Hill. The town already owns a partial of this land; there is a partial up for sale now. It is recommended that town buy the land for the commission would like to keep the partials in the hands of the town. A discussion took place on weather or not this land, falls into the watershed area of the lake. It was determined that the water shed runs north and east of the lake and the brook flows south into the Salmon River. Frank Junga requested that we get a U.S.G.S Topographic map to further look at the land and see the proper lay out of the brook and water shed area.
Public Comments: Alison Walk, member of Council thanks Jean, Frank and Michael for the excellent job done with Earth Day.
John Jordon, Liaison between the Lake and Conservation Committee has requested to be added to the distribution list via email for updates and agendas for upcoming meetings. John also spoke about the positive outcome for Earth Day.
Discussion took place on the solar bee ultra sound units that have been purchased for the lake. To the knowledge of persons present these have not been installed. The Solar Bee targets towards the bad algae food chain and keeps it in tact. This will attack algae blooms only.
