East Hampton Senior Center

MINUTES

Present: Vice Chairperson Mary Jo Shafer, Commission Member Ann McLaughlin and Alternate Patricia Dufour. Also present: Senior Center Director Jo Ann Ewing.

Not Present:  Chairperson Cynthia DelFavero, Sue Greeno and Robert Petell

Call to Order:
Vice Chairperson Mary Jo Shafer called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. at the East Hampton Senior Center.

A motion was made by Ms. McLaughlin, seconded by Ms. Shafer to seat alternate Patricia Dufour.  Voted (2-0).

Approval of Minutes:
A motion was made by Ms. Dufour, seconded by Ms. McLaughlin, to approve the minutes of the December 13, 2012 meeting as written. Voted (3-0).

Public Remarks:  
None

Correspondence:
None

Senior Services Report:
Ms. Ewing provided an update on the following:
  • The holidays at the Senior Center went well
  • Work is being done for the budget
  • The Library/Senior Center staff and management are working on solutions for the curb issue where a couple of people have fallen
  • She is working with the Parks & Recreation department on boomer activities
New Business:
A letter will be drafted from the Commission to the Town Manager and Town Council regarding adding to the number of commission members and not having alternates.

Old Business:
Sub-Committee Reports:
Transportation – Ms. McLaughlin provided a copy of a transportation study that has been prepared with information on surrounding towns.

Emergency Preparedness Update:
The letter in response to Edgemere Condominiums is pending.

Housing Authority Report:
Ms. McLaughlin reported the following:
  • A consultant will be making recommendations as to the type of housing that should be built for seniors.
Public Remarks:  
Cheryl Tyler commented that there should be at least two full time staff members at the Senior Center, noting the current staff does an exceptional job but the senior population is growing.  She also noted a concern at Chatham Acres that the driveway does not go far enough to the end units.

Adjournment:
A motion was made by Ms. McLaughlin, seconded by Ms. Dufour, to adjourn the meeting at 3:55 p.m.  Voted (3-0).
