Commission on Aging (COA)

East Hampton Senior Center

MINUTES

Present:  Chairperson Cynthia DelFavero, Vice Chairperson Mary Jo Shafer, Commission Members Ann McLaughlin and Robert Petell and Alternate Patricia Dufour.~Also present: Senior Center Director Jo Ann Ewing.

Not Present:  Sue Greeno

Call to Order:
Chairperson Cynthia DelFavero called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. at the East Hampton Senior Center.

A motion was made by Ms. McLaughlin, seconded by Ms. Shafer, to seat alternate Patricia Dufour.  Voted (4-0).

Approval of Minutes:
A motion was made by Ms. Shafer, seconded by Ms. Dufour, to approve the minutes of the August 9, 2012 meeting as amended. Voted (5-0).

Public Remarks:  
None

Correspondence:
None

Senior Services Report:
Ms. Ewing reported the following:
  • The newsletter has a new format
  • Several trips were taken in August
  • Energy assistance is starting
  • Flu clinic September 26th
  • Discussion of handicap parking issues
New Business:
Sub-Committee Reports:
Health & Wellness – Ms. DelFavero and Ms. Shafer - The group discussed an adult playground.  Questions arose regarding the ownership of the Airline Trail, possible grants, Sears Park and insurance liability.  Ms. DelFavero will contact Parks & Recreation Director Ruth Plummer.

Transportation – Ms. McLauglin and Ms. Ewing - Transportation is a statewide problem.  There are issues with the current Dial-A-Ride program.  They will be contacting other towns that have their own service.

Old Business:
Stop & Shop Letter:
No update.

Emergency Preparedness Update:
No update.

Senior Survey:
No update.

Comcast:
It was suggested that Commission on Aging members attend a meeting of the Northern Middlesex County Cable TV Advisory Board meeting on September 17th.

Laurel Ridge:
The Decide Create Share workshop is scheduled for Saturday, September 15th.

The Medicare buss will be at Stop & Shop on October 23rd.

Housing Authority Report:
Ms. McLaughlin reported the following:
  • Several members of the Housing Authority attended a recent conference
  • RFP for congregate housing to be prepared
  • All Housing Authority residents are signed up for EH Alerts
Town Council Assignments:
September 25 – Ms. Shafer
October 23 – Mr. Petell
November 27 – Ms. DelFavero
December 11 – Ms. Greeno

Adjournment:
A motion was made by Ms. Dufour, seconded by Ms. Shafer, to adjourn the meeting at 4:07 p.m.  Voted (5-0).
