East Hampton Senior Center

MINUTES

Present: Chairperson Cynthia DelFavero, Vice Chairperson Mary Jo Shafer, Commission Members Sue Greeno and Ann McLaughlin and Alternate Patricia Dufour. Also present: Senior Center Director Jo Ann Ewing and Recording Secretary Cathy Sirois.

Not Present:  Robert Petell

Call to Order:
Chairperson Cynthia DelFavero called the meeting to order at 3:03 p.m. at the East Hampton Senior Center.

A motion was made by Ms. Greeno, seconded by Ms. Shafer, to seat alternate Pat Dufour.  Voted (4-0).

Approval of Minutes:
A motion was made by Ms. Shafer, seconded by Ms. Greeno, to approve the minutes of the June 14, 2012 meeting as written.
Voted (5-0).

Public Remarks:  None

Correspondence: None

Senior Services Report:
Ms. Ewing reported on the following:
  • August will be the last newsletter unless a printing solution is found
  • The remaining furniture has arrived at the Senior Center
  • A new steam table is needed at a cost of approximately $800 to $1000
  • The room divider has been ordered
  • The 2007 18 passenger vehicle took its first trip
  • The East Hampton Senior Center meeting will be held the 1st Monday of the month at 1pm
  • Myseniorcenter for June signed in 1315 members for events. There were 156 unduplicated sign-ins.
  • What can Commission on Aging do regarding transportation?
New Business:
Purchase of Tabletop Display:
Ms. DelFavero presented the new tabletop display that was purchased.

September AARP Seminar:
A motion was made by Ms. McLaughlin, seconded by Ms. Dufour, for the Commission on Aging to sponsor an AARP seminar at Laurel Ridge on September 15, 2012.  Voted (5-0).

Ms. DelFavero discussed possible committees for aging with others from the community including a Health and Wellness Committee and a Transportation Committee.

Ms. Ewing invited the commission members to the Annual Senior Center Picnic on August 22nd from 11am to 2pm at Sears Park.

Ms. Greeno reported that 19 people were trained for the Senior Medicare Patrol.

Old Business:
Stop & Shop Letter:
The letter has been finalized by all but one Senior Center Director.

Emergency Preparedness Update:
East Hampton Alerts is up and running.

Senior Survey:
No new information at this time.

Comcast Update:
It was suggested that a representative from each town go to a meeting of the Northern Middlesex County Cable TV Advisory Board meeting in the fall to present the proposal for a discount for seniors.

Housing Authority Report:
Judie Bobbi, Executive Director of the Housing Authority, reported the following:
  • Renters rebate is coming up
  • The smoke free policy was passed
  • The shovel ready project for congregate housing is still on hold
  • New officers for the Housing Authority are:
  • Chairman – Tom Denman
  • Vice Chairperson – Pat Dufour
  • Secretary – JoAnn Ewing
  • Treasurer – Ann McLaughlin
  • Tenant Commissioner – Monica Kangley

Adjournment:
A motion was made by Ms. Greeno, seconded by Ms. Shafer, to adjourn the meeting at 4:15 p.m.  Voted (5-0).
