East Hampton Senior Center

MINUTES

Present:  Chairperson Cynthia DelFavero, Vice Chairperson Mary Jo Shafer, Commission Members Sue Greeno, Ann McLaughlin and Robert Petell (arrived at 3:15 p.m.) and Alternate Patricia Dufour (arrived at 3:13 p.m.).~Also present: Senior Center Director Jo Ann Ewing and Recording Secretary Cathy Sirois.

Call to Order:
Chairperson Cynthia DelFavero called the meeting to order at 3:07 p.m. at the East Hampton Senior Center.

Approval of Minutes:
A motion was made by Ms. Shafer, seconded by Ms. Greeno, to approve the minutes of the April 12, 2012 meeting as written. ~Voted (3-0-1). Ms. McLaughlin abstained as she was not present at that meeting.

A motion was made by Ms. Shafer, seconded by Ms. Greeno, to add Comcast Update to Old Business.  Voted (4-0).

New Business:  None

Old Business:
Stop & Shop Letter:
A letter is being prepared to send to Stop & Shop regarding providing grocery points as an alternative to gas points for seniors.  This program is done in New Jersey.  Eight other senior center directors are interested in supporting this opportunity.

A motion was made by Ms. McLaughlin, seconded by Ms. Shafer, to seat alternate Pat Dufour in place of Mr. Petell.  Voted (4-0).

Mr. Petell arrived at 3:15 p.m.

A motion was made by Ms. McLaughlin, seconded by Ms. Greeno, to unseat Ms. Dufour as Mr. Petell arrived at the meeting.  Voted (5-0)

Comcast Update:
Ms. Shafer provided an update on her efforts to contact Comcast regarding a cable tv discount for seniors.  She has contacted the Northern Middlesex County Cable TV Advisory Board member from East Hampton, Dave Overson.  She will continue her efforts.

Emergency Preparedness Update:
There will be two sign up days at the Senior Center for the emergency alert system.

Senior Survey:
No new information at this time.

SMP Seminar:
Ms. Greeno discussed the Senior Medicare Patrol recruitment.  There will be training on Friday, June 22 from 10am to 3pm at Senior Resources in Norwich.

A motion was made by Ms. McLaughlin, seconded by Ms. Shafer, to purchase a banner and tabletop display and to look into name badges.  Voted (5-0).

The Senior Discount listing needs to be updated by deleting Big Tom’s Backyard.

Housing Authority Report:
Ms. McLaughlin reported that inspection all units is in progress.  The Annual Meeting will be held the week of June 18th.

Senior Services Report:
Ms. Ewing reported her concerns regarding the printing of the newsletter.  She provided an overview of the programs, activities and entertainment at the Senior Center.  There was a discussion of senior transportation.

Adjournment:
A motion was made by Ms. McLaughlin, seconded by Ms. Shafer, to adjourn the meeting at 4:40 p.m.  Voted (5-0).
