MINUTES

Present: Chairperson Cynthia DelFavero, Vice Chairperson Mary Jo Shafer and Commission Member Ann McLaughlin. Also present: Senior Center Director Jo Ann Ewing and Recording Secretary Cathy Sirois.

Call to Order:
Chairperson Cynthia DelFavero called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m.

Approval of Minutes:
A motion was made by Ms. McLaughlin, seconded by Ms. Shafer, to approve the minutes of the June 9, 2011 meeting as written. Voted (3-0).

Correspondence: None

New Business:
AARP:
Ms. DelFavero attended a seminar Decide – Create – Share through AARP.  She thought that this seminar may be able to be added to the seminars sponsored through the Commission on Aging.

Old Business:
Yellow Dot/TRIAD:
The next steps for the Yellow Dot program were discussed.  Terry Concannon would like to be involved in the program with a possible meeting at Laurel Ridge.  Jodi Brazal will be trained on the program and will then assist in training those involved such as the police and ambulance personnel.

Brochure Update:
The final bill from the brochure designer has been paid.  Different types of paper stock will be considered for the printing of the brochure.

Emergency Preparedness Update:
Ms. DelFavero and Ms. McLaughlin met with Francis Willette from Everbridge regarding the new alert system. The options of the Everbridge system were reviewed.

Facebook:
Ms. DelFavero discussed the possibility of the Commission on Aging creating a Facebook page.  This will be discussed at a future meeting.

Housing Authority Report:
Ms. McLaughlin reported that the Housing Authority obtained funding from the American Recovery Weatherization program for heat pumps, window seals, caulking and weather stripping.  They will be meeting with CL&P regarding refrigerators and stoves.  A task list for Bellwood Court was prepared during the walk through.  Chatham Acres walkthrough will be done soon.

Senior Services Report:
Ms. Ewing provided an overview of the temporary move of the Senior Center to the Congregational Church due to the construction.

Public Remarks:
Maureen Hawkins, Colchester Avenue, asked about volunteer drivers to get seniors to the Senior Center.

Jodi Brazal, Housing Authority, asked about the old Senior Center van.

Adjournment:
A motion was made by Ms. McLaughlin, seconded by Ms. Shafer, to adjourn the meeting at 4:25 p.m.  Voted (3-0).
