MINUTES

Present: Chairperson Cynthia DelFavero, Vice Chairperson Mary Jo Shafer and Commission Member Ann McLaughlin. Also present: Senior Center Director Jo Ann Ewing and Recording Secretary Cathy Sirois.

Call to Order:
Chairperson Cynthia DelFavero called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m.

Approval of Minutes:
A motion was made by Ms. McLaughlin, seconded by Ms. Shafer, to approve the minutes of the May 12, 2011 meeting as written. Voted (3-0).

Correspondence: ~None

New Business:
A motion was made by Ms. McLaughlin, seconded by Ms. Shafer, to add an item to the agenda for the CTriad/Yellow Dot Program.  Voted (3-0).

Jodi Brazal from the Housing Authority was present to provide an overview of the CTriad Yellow Dot Program.  An informational session will provide information on forming a CTriad.  Attendees for the informational session should include JoAnn Ewing, Thad King or a representative from the Health Department, Chief Reimondo or a representative from the Police Department, Rich Klotzbier, Tom Donnelly from the Ambulance and Fire Chief Paul Owen.  An email will be sent to the group inviting them to the session.

Grants:  
A grant is available from AT&T for WiFi at senior housing complexes.  The Housing Authority is looking into this grant.

Facebook:  
The commission discussed a Facebook page for the Commission on Aging.

Town-wide Broadband Access:  
The commission discussed federal grant programs that could provide broadband technology opportunities.

Old Business:
Brochure Update:
The brochure designer will be reviewing the layout of the brochure and correcting folding issues. Printing options will be discussed at the next meeting.

COA/Senior Center – Seminar Schedule & Topics:
The first Medicare seminar will be held on September 22nd.  The Commission on Aging members will be present at the seminar to provide information on the commission.  The location of the seminar will be determined.

Emergency Preparedness Update:
Ms. DelFavero spoke to Thad King and Rich Klotzbier regarding the Everbridge system.  She indicated that many groups can be formed in the system such as a group for seniors.  Individuals will sign up on their own.  No database will be imported for the system.

Housing Authority Report:
Ms. McLaughlin reported that fencing near the parking lots was damaged by plows this winter.  Also, heat pumps will be installed in each unit.

Senior Services Report:
Ms. Ewing reported that the Senior Center renovations are under way.  On July 11th the Senior Center will move to the Congregational Church.  Hours will be adjusted and there will be more day trips planned.  In July there will be a meeting of the Belltown Seniors group.

Adjournment:
A motion was made by Ms. McLaughlin, seconded by Ms. Shafer, to adjourn the meeting at 4:17 p.m.  Voted (3-0).
