Minutes

Present:  Chairperson Pauline Simko, Vice Chairman Lance Johnson (arrived at 3:10 p.m.), Nelson Maurice, Ann McLaughlin and Mary Jo Shafer.  Also present: Senior Center Director Jo Ann Ewing, Town Manager Jeffery O’Keefe and Recording Secretary Cathy Sirois.

Call to Order:
Chairperson Simko called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m.

Approval of Minutes:
A motion was made by Ms. McLaughlin, seconded by Mr. Maurice, to approve the minutes of the May 13, 2010 meeting as written.  Voted (4-0).

Correspondence:  None

New Business:
A motion was made by Ms. Shafer, seconded by Ms. McLaughlin, to cancel the August Commission on Aging Meeting.  Voted (4-0).

Ms. Simko discussed the idea of approaching the Ambulance Association for funding for the myseniorcenter.com system.  She will write a letter to the Ambulance Association from the Commission.

Unfinished Business:
Meet and Greet:  The first meet and greet of the Commission on Aging will be held following today’s meeting at Loco Perro.  The Commission on Aging brochure will not be available for today but the listing of restaurants offering senior discounts will be distributed.

MySeniorCenter.com: As discussed above, Ms. Simko will write a letter to the Ambulance Association regarding a donation for myseniorcenter.com.

Senior Center Building Report:  Ms. McLaughlin reported that the Senior Center Building Committee hasn’t met recently.  Planning & Zoning approved the changes to the Senior Center plans.  A meeting will be held in the near future to review the plans.  It is hoped that construction will begin in the summer.

Commission on Aging Brochure:  The Commission discussed the contents of the brochure that will be developed.

Housing Authority Report:  Ms. McLaughlin reported that the Housing Authority members walked the Bellwood Court property at their last meeting.  Painting is needed at the complex.  The sidewalks on Gov. Bill O’Neill Drive are in the process of being replaced.  They are still getting bids for a consultant for the congregate housing project.  At their June meeting they will have the election of officers for the year.

Senior Services Presentation:  Jo Ann Ewing, Senior Services Coordinator, provided an overview of the activities held at the Senior Center this past month.  On June 9th, the extended hours for the Senior Center began.  They are now open until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday evenings.

A motion was made by Ms. McLaughlin, seconded by Mr. Johnson, to adjourn the meeting at 4:30 p.m.
