Town Cemetery Board
Tuesday, October 21, 2008

Board of Education Meeting Room


CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Kevin Reich called the meeting to order at 10:07 a.m.

Present: Chairman Kevin Reich and members Russell Oakes, Sr. and Nikki O’Neill.  Also in attendance were Sexton Robert Drewry, Town Council member John Tuttle, Secretary Cathy Sirois and Laura Clark of Underground Imaging Technologies.

Not present:  Arthur Jacobson

APPROVAL OF MINUTES – MAY 20, 2008
A motion was made by Ms. O’Neill, seconded by Mr. Oakes to approve the minutes of the May 20, 2008 meeting.  Voted (2-0-1). Mr. Oakes abstained as he was not in attendance at that meeting.

UNDERGROUND IMAGING PRESENTATION
Laura Clark of Underground Imaging Technologies gave a presentation on the process of x-raying cemeteries with ground penetrating radar to locate additional space for grave sites.

UPDATE ON CEMETERIES
Sexton Drewry reported that one person has been buried since May, 2008.  Skinner Street Cemetery will be cleaned up during the summer by the Bible Church students.  

FEES
The fee for plots in the town cemeteries is $500.  There is also a $350 charge to dig the grave.

FLAG POLE UPDATE
Donations have been received to purchase five flag poles.  Donations were received from the Reich family, Shulman family, Bernard family, the Lions Club, the Village Lions and the Rotary Club.  Ms. O’Neill will check with State officials to see if flags can be donated for each cemetery.

2009-2010 BUDGET
$8,000.00 will be requested for the Town Cemetery Board for the 2009-2010 budget.

ADOPT A CEMETERY
An idea was discussed about having local landscapers “adopt” a cemetery where they would take care of the landscaping services at each of the town cemeteries.  A sign could be placed near the entrance acknowledging the company that services the property.    

FUTURE PROJECTS
Bob Drewry noted that he will be retiring at the end of the year and a new sexton will need to be hired.  The board noted that they would like Bob to remain as sexton.

OTHER
Mr. Oakes will check into possibly having the scouts paint the fences.  Also he will check with Rite Way Welding about repairing fences

ADJOURNMENT
A motion was made by Ms. O’Neill, seconded by Mr. Oakes, to adjourn the meeting at 11:35 a.m. Voted (3–0).
