East Hampton Arts and Cultural Commission
Meeting Minutes - April 21, 2011

Meeting Call to Order at 7:07 p.m.
Members Present: Elizabeth Sennett, Rachael Mansfield, Shirley Brooks, Valerie Bozzi, Kevin Gunning
Members not present: Rich Leone, Monica Kangley, Elizabeth Namen, Carol Lane
  • Commission determined that without all members present they would like to continue to defer the election of Chair and Vice-Chair until the next meeting.
  • Commission Member Bozzi mentioned that we are in the early steps of building this Commission and need to get the word out.      
  • Commission discussed the creation of a PSA or press release for the local newspapers that could recruit arts in the area. Commission then created an initial list of Arts and Cultural Resources in East Hampton
  • Epoch Arts, Podium Players, YPCCA, Chatham Historical Society, EH Art Association, Blackledge Music, The Dramatix Showband, Johnny 5, Arnie Davidson, Garden Club, Goff House, Old Home Day, EH Public Library, Ralph Phil, Walt Jedziniak, Middle Haddam Library, Tom Wells, Whitney Fielding, 70 Main Street
  • Commission Member Mansfield discussed the need for an Arts and Cultural Commission website that would provide residents with information about various groups in town, etc.
  • Each organization could submit a picture and provide a brief paragraph with their mission statement and offering.
  • Commission Member Mansfield made a motion to investigate the website project.  Motion seconded by Commission Member Sennett. Vote: 5-0
  • Commission Member Bozzi made a motion to create a PSA to introduce this new commission to the community and to try to reach out to organizations in Town and possibly recruit new members. Possibly include an Artist’s “Open House” at our next meeting.  Motion seconded by Commission Member Brooks. Vote: 5-0 (Councilman Cordeiro volunteered to work on the PSA as well).
  • Commission Members discussed that the new lights for the High School Auditorium in the Board of Finance Capital Plan had been eliminated from the budget.  The Commission thought it might benefit the high school to formally support the lighting purchase.
  • Commission Member Gunning made a motion to have the Commission draft a letter for the Board of Education offering support for the purchase.  Commission Member Brooks seconded. Vote: 5-0
