Standing Committee Reports
Memorial Day Ceremony Committee: Mark Simmons suggested that a Memorial Day Parade coordinator be named since certain planning tasks for this event begin in January. Ernie Teixeira said that he would appoint Vice Chairman Jim Barton as Memorial Day Parade Coordinator for 2009.
Poster / Essay Committee: No report
Scholarship Committee: No Report
Veterans Cemetery Project Committee: Ken Crouch and Ernie Teixeira discussed the planned purchase of flag holders for every East Windsor veteran’s grave site that currently has no flag holder. Through the efforts of Eagle Scout Dan Webster; Pack 89 we know that approximately 885 veterans are buried in all East Windsor Cemeteries. Ernie will ask if our local Boy Scout troop can assist in determining the number of veterans’ graves without a flag holder. Ken Crouch will research the pricing and style of flag holders available and report back to the commission.
Veterans Day Road Race Committee: The Chairman discussed the need to formulate a plan to solicit donations from East Windsor businesses and citizens to support our annual 5K road race. Warren Wenz took on this task each year and did a superb job both in collecting money and spreading good will for our commission. Warren has resigned from the E.W.V.C. after many years of faithful service and hard work. His contributions will be difficult to match. It was suggested that the solicitation list be entered onto a spread sheet for easier access and record keeping. Ernie Teixeira said that he would see what could be done. cont.

New/Other Business: Ernie Teixeira received thank you letters from the Five Corner Cupboard for our E.W.V.C donation and from the D.A.R. thanking us for our participation in the “Wreaths Across America” event last December 13, 2008, at our East Windsor Veterans Cemetery. The letters were provided for those present to read.
The Chairman closed the meeting at 7:40 P.M.
