REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
for
Thursday, October 2, 2008
OPENING:
Ernie Teixeira, Chairman, opened this meeting at 7:00 P.M. at the East Windsor Town Hall. There were eight commission members in attendance: Ernie Teixeira, Ron Hwalek, Mark Simmons, Warren Wenz, Dave Malo, Ken Crouch, Jim Barton and George Butenkoff. A special guest was also present - Ms.Martha Coitaux of the D.A.R.
Absent: Rick Webster, Nicholas Macsata, Edward Bonetti, William Abbe Sr., and Fred McDermott.
Ernie Teixeira led the commission in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
SECRETARY’S REPORT: The previous special meeting’s minutes of September 5, 2008, were submitted for the review of those present. Warren Wenz moved to accept the special meeting’s minutes of September 5, 2008, as corrected. This was seconded by George Butenkoff and carried unanimously.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Ron Hwalek reported no change from last month’s report.

Veterans Day Road Race Committee -
The commission members present discussed our upcoming road race event scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2008. An update on the progress in soliciting donations and scheduling speakers was given by Chairman Teixeira. Chairman Teixeira directed Warren Wenz to obtain two wreaths for the Town Hall monuments for our race day ceremony.

NEW/OTHER BUSINESS:
Ernie Teixeira presented a thank you note received from Vera Morrison for our donation to the “American Warrior” program, “Connecticut Honor Flights”.
A presentation was given by Ms. Martha Cotiaux of the D.A.R. asking for our commissions’ participation in a “Wreaths Across America Veterans Holiday” ceremony to be held on December 13th, 2008, at 12:00 Noon at our Veterans Cemetery in Windsorville. (weather permitting). All present agreed to participate.
George Butenkoff discussed the planned dedication of the Windsor Locks Bridge to be held Saturday, October 11, 2008, at 11:00 A.M. at the Warehouse Point side of the bridge. The Windsor Locks bridge will be dedicated to our WW I veterans. Ken Crouch agreed to reserve the American Legion Post 40 building on Gardner St. for refreshments after the ceremony.
MOTION: George Butenkoff moved to supply up to $100.00 toward the refreshments expenses for the ceremony participants. This was seconded by Warren Wenz and carried unanimously.
Mark Simmons discussed the notice from the East Windsor Board of Selectmen to submit a written request for an ordinance change in the required number of East Windsor Veterans Commission members if desired.
MOTION: George Butenkoff moved to ask for the East Windsor Veterans Commission be reduced from thirteen (13) regular members to nine (9) regular members with any number of “honorary” commission members as deemed appropriate by a vote of the Board of Selectmen. The “honorary” members would hold the honorary member title only and have no voting rights. This was seconded by Warren Wenz and the motion carried unanimously.
George Butenkoff discussed his research on our planned East Windsor Veterans’ Monument. George said that a sketch and approximate cost of the monument is needed. The commission members present suggested various placements for the monument.

ADJOURNMENT
Hearing of no further business to come before the commission Chairman, Ernie Teixeira, asked for a motion to adjourn. Warren Wenz moved to adjourn and this was seconded by George Butenkoff. The motion carried unanimously. Chairman, Ernie Teixeira, closed this meeting at 7:53 P.M.
