REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
for
THURSDAY, MAY 8, 2008
OPENING:
Ernie Teixeira, Chairman, opened this meeting at 7:00 P.M. at the East Windsor Town Hall Annex. There were eight commission members in attendance: Ernie Teixeira, Ron Hwalek, Mark Simmons, Warren Wenz, Nicholas Macsata, Ken Crouch, Dave Malo and Edward Bonetti. Absent: Jim Barton, George Butenkoff, William Abbe Sr., Fred McDermott, and Rick Webster.
Ernie Teixeira led the commission in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
SECRETARY’S REPORT:
The previous meeting’s minutes of April 3, 2008, were submitted for the review of those present. Nicholas Macsata moved to accept the meeting’s minutes of April 3, 2008, as submitted. This was seconded by Warren Wenz and carried unanimously.
TREASURER’S REPORT:
No report.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony Committee -
Ernie Teixeira discussed preparations with the members present for the upcoming Memorial Day ceremony set for Monday, May 26, 2008. All tasks and assignments appeared to be on schedule.
Memorial Day Poster/Essay Contest Committee -
No Report
Scholarship Committee -
Warren Wenz presented eighteen (five male and thirteen female) scholarship applications received from EWHS seniors. Warren had edited out the applicants’ names on their submitted forms in order for the commission to make a fair review. The commission members reviewed all eighteen applications and selected EWHS senior Michael Macadlo and EWHS senior Ashley Jones as the 2008 EWVC scholarship award recipients.
Veterans Cemetery Project Committee -
No report
Veterans Day Road Race Committee -
Ernie Teixeira asked that our T-Shirt purchase for the road race be discussed at our June 5, 2008 meeting. (cont.)

NEW/OTHER BUSINESS:
The East Windsor Charter Review Committee had requested the EWVC’s suggestions for any recommended changes to be considered for the town’s charter review process.
A brief discussion was held on the idea of reducing our commission membership number.
MOTION: Nicholas Macsata moved to have our regular EWVC membership total eleven commission members with two honorary members. Warren Wenz seconded this motion and it carried unanimously.
Ernie Teixeira, Chairman, reminded all present that our next scheduled meeting will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2008, at 7:00 P.M. at the Broad Brook Town Hall.
Ernie also reminded all present that all commission members’ help and presence are needed at the Memorial Day parade being held Monday, May 26, 2008. Ernie asked all members to arrive at the Town Hall Annex by at least 9:00 A.M. or sooner. Ernie can be reached at 623-8782 for any questions, concerns or ideas.
ADJOURNMENT
Hearing of no further business to come before the commission Chairman, Ernie Teixeira, asked for a motion to adjourn. Warren Wenz moved to adjourn and this was seconded by Nicholas Macsata. The motion carried unanimously. Chairman, Ernie Teixeira, closed this meeting at 8:50 P.M.
