EAST WINDSOR VETERANS COMMISSION
MEETING MINUTES
for
Thursday, December 6, 2007
OPENING:
Warren Wenz, Chairman, opened this meeting at 7:00 P.M. at the East Windsor Town Hall. There were eight commission members in attendance: Warren Wenz, Ron Hwalek, Mark Simmons, George Butenkoff, James Barton, Rick Webster, Ken Crouch, Ernie Teixeira and guest - Mr. John Guzzi
Absent: Fred McDermott, Don Brown, William Abbe Sr., Nick Macsata and Dave Malo.
Warren Wenz led the commission members in reciting the “Pledge of Allegiance”.
SECRETARY’S REPORT: The previous meeting’s minutes of October 4, 2007, were submitted for the approval of those present. George Butenkoff moved to accept the meeting’s minutes as submitted. This was seconded by Ernie Teixeira and carried unanimously.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Ron Hwalek reported that he had no new updates and would submit a final report to include race day information at our next meeting.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony Committee-

Scholarship Committee-

Veterans Cemetery Project-
Ken Crouch presented a certificate of appreciation from the East Windsor Veterans Commission to Mr. John Guzzi thanking him for his donated time and labor to install the memorial brick walkway at our cemetery. Mr. Guzzi was very appreciative and added that Mr. Brian Harrington also assisted in this effort.

Veterans Day Road Race Committee-
Rick Webster initiated a discussion on how to improve upon our race day for next year. Several ideas were considered such as making more age divisions and offering more & other types of prizes. Rick reported that we had 250 registered runners for this year with 140 of them from East Windsor. Rick remarked that this was better showing of East Windsor area runners than in previous years.
“Platt Timing” has given our commission a tentative commitment date of Saturday, November 8, 2008, for next years’ race. The members present agreed to this date for next years’ race by unanimous consent. A contract will be secured from “Platt Timing” services for next year.
MOTION: George Butenkoff moved to place an ad for next years’ race at the appropriate time in the “New England Runner” magazine. This was seconded by Ken Crouch and carried unanimously.
OTHER BUSINESS:
Warren Wenz asked for nominations for East Windsor Veterans Commission officers for the year 2008. Warren remarked that he wished to step down as Chairman after nearly ten years of commitment to the commission. The members present expressed their collective gratitude to Warren for a job well done as chairman.
MOTION: George Butenkoff moved to nominate Ernie Teixeira for Chairman. This was seconded by Ken Crouch.
MOTION: George Butenkoff moved to close nominations for Chairman.
This was seconded by Ken Crouch and carried unanimously.
Ernie Teixeira was then unanimously voted as EWVC Chairman for 2008.
MOTION: George Butenkoff moved to nominate Jim Barton as Vice Chairman.
This was seconded by Ron Hwalek.
MOTION: George Butenkoff moved to close nominations for Vice Chairman.
This was seconded by Ron Hwalek and carried unanimously.
Jim Barton was then unanimously voted as EWVC Vice Chairman for 2008.
MOTION: Goerge Butenkoff moved to nominate Mark Simmons as Secretary.
This was seconded by Ernie Teixira.
MOTION: Jim Barton moved to close nominations for Secretary. This was seconded by Ernie Teixeira and carried unanimously.
Mark Simmons was then unanimously voted as EWVC Secretary for 2008.

MOTION: Jim Barton moved to nominate Ron Hwalek as Treasurer. This was seconded by Rick Webster.
MOTION: Jim Barton moved to close nominations for Treasurer. This was seconded by Rick Webster and carried unanimously.
Ron Hwalek was then unanimously voted as EWVC Treasurer for 2008.
Warren then asked for a review of the proposed Commission meeting dates for 2008.
All present agreed that the first Thursday of each month for all regular meetings works well with no meeting for July or August.
MOTION: George Butenkoff moved to have all regular EWVC meetings held on the first Thursday of each month during 2008 with no regular meetings during July & August as discussed. This was seconded by Ron Hwalek and carried unanimously.
Rick Webster discussed a need for a good quality, first aid kit for his Boy Scout Troop # 89. Rick requested a donation of $200.00 for the East Windsor Veterans Commission for the purchase of the first aid kit.
MOTION: George Butenkoff moved to donate up to $200.00 from the EWVC treasury to Boy Scout Troop #89 for the purchase of the needed first aid kit. This was seconded by Ernie Teixeira and carried unanimously.
Rick thanked the commission members on behalf of Boy Scout Troop #89.
Warren Wenz reminded all that our next regular meeting is scheduled for January 3, 2008
at East Windsor Town Hall
7:00 P.M.
ADJOURNMENT
Hearing of no further business to come before the commission, Chairman Warren Wenz asked for a motion to adjourn. Jim Barton moved to adjourn this meeting and this was seconded by George Butenkoff. The motion carried unanimously. The Chairman closed the meeting at 7:46 P.M.
