STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony Committee-
Warren held a discussion about the preparations for our Memorial Day parade and ceremony for Monday, May 28th, 2007.  All tasks and assignments appeared on schedule. Warren handed out the program for this year’s 2007 ceremony.
Warren also reported that the East Windsor Cemetery Commission recently removed many, if not all, of the flags on our veterans’ grave sites.  This will make the task of replacing the flags this year more difficult.  The E.W. Cemetery Commission Chairman, Dan Burnham will be at our next meeting.  Warren will remind Mr. Burnham of our prior agreement to leave the flags at our veterans’ grave sites.

Memorial Day Poster/Essay Contest Committee-
This year’s contest winners are Annie Khan-Grade 1, Keila Boychak-Grade 4, Suzy Quinn-Grade 5, Demitria Estrada-Grade 7, Brett Sneider-Grade 9 and Jordan Randolph-Grade 11.  All contest winners have been notified and will attend our Memorial Day ceremony to receive their $50.00 cash awards.

Scholarship Committee-
The 14 applications received were scored by the commission and this year’s scholarship recipients will be Amy Destro and Michael Strycharz.  Mark Simmons will represent the East Windsor Veterans Commission at the awards night Monday, June 11, 2007, at East Windsor High School.  Each recipient will receive a $500.00 cash scholarship after acceptance at a post secondary educational institution is certified.  The guidance office at East Windsor High School will process and distribute the awards.

Veterans Cemetery Project-
Dave Malo reported that he has found several of our veterans’ graves in serious disrepair.  Dave distributed several photographs he had taken of veterans’ graves located at the North Cemetery to illustrate his findings.  The entire commission agreed this was most unacceptable and that immediate action needs to be taken.  Warren said Mr. Burnham, Chairman of the East Windsor Cemetery Commission, will be present at our next meeting and we should ask him for assistance in correcting this.

Veterans Day Road Race Committee-
        No Report

OTHER BUSINESS:

Mark Simmons mentioned that George Butenkoff had requested that our commission look into obtaining used, rebuilt computers for veterans use.  Warren said that he would bring this up at our June meeting.

Warren reminded those present that our next regular meeting will be
Thursday, June 7, 2007, at 7PM
East Windsor Town Hall

ADJOURNMENT

Hearing of no further business to come before the commission, Chairman Warren Wenz asked for a motion to adjourn.  Dave Malo moved to adjourn this meeting and this was seconded by Jim Barton.  The motion carried unanimously.  The Chairman closed the meeting at 7:25 P.M.

Respectfully submitted,

Mark Simmons, Secretary E.W.V.C.
