EAST WINDSOR VETERANS COMMISSION
MEETING MINUTES
for
Thursday, April 5, 2007


OPENING:
Ken Crouch, Acting Chairman, opened this meeting at 7:03 P.M. at the East Windsor Town Hall.  There were seven commission members in attendance: Mark Simmons, Ron Hwalek, James Barton, George Butenkoff, Dave Malo, Don Brown and Ken Crouch.  
Absent: Warren Wenz, Nick Macsata, William Abbe Sr., Ernie Teixeira, Rick Webster and Fred McDermott.

Ken Crouch led the Commission in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

SECRETARY’S REPORT:     The minutes of the March 1, 2007, meeting were reviewed by those present.  George Butenkoff moved to accept the minutes as submitted.  This was seconded by Ron Hwalek and carried unanimously.

TREASURER’S REPORT: No Report


STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony Committee-
        Ken Crouch held a discussion about the preparations for our Memorial Day parade and ceremony for Monday, May 28th, 2007.  All tasks and assignments appeared on schedule.  Ken asked if the invitation cards had been mailed out to all parade participants and advised that he would check with Jennifer in the First Selectman’s office.    Ken said that he would check with the new owners the Masonic Hall on the Warehouse Point Green to obtain permission for a power hook up.
        Ken asked those present about purchasing a large EWVC banner for parades and display purposes.  A brief discussion followed.
MOTION: George Butenkoff moved to purchase an appropriate “East Windsor Veterans Commission” banner with funds from our treasury.  This was seconded by Don Brown and carried unanimously.  Ken directed Ron Hwalek to contact his sources for banner design and pricing for review at our next meeting.

Memorial Day Poster/Essay Contest Committee-
        Ken Crouch reported that Warren Wenz will have our schools’ poster and essay entries for judging at our next meeting, May 3rd, 2007.

Scholarship Committee-
        Mark Simmons reported that he would represent the commission at the awards night at EWHS for the scholarship presentation.   This year EWHS will handle delivery of the scholarship checks to the chosen seniors.                                                                                                      

Veterans Cemetery Project-
          Ken Crouch opened a discussion about the purchase of memorial bricks to be placed around the cemetery monument & walkway.  Ken had made some measurements around the monument and discussed some landscaping ideas.  A price of $35.00 per brick was also reviewed.  The members present agreed to hold off further discussion on this project until Warren Wenz returns with his report on the bricks’ cost and design.
                                                                                                        
Veterans Day Road Race Committee-
        No Report

OTHER BUSINESS:

         George Butenkoff reminded all present that East Windsor Community Day is Saturday, May 12, 2007.  George also announced that he is still looking for veterans interested in recording their military biography.

ADJOURNMENT

        Hearing of no further business to come before the commission, Acting Chairman Ken Crouch asked for a motion to adjourn.  George Butenkoff moved to adjourn this meeting and this was seconded by Ron Hwalek.  The motion carried unanimously.  The Chairman closed the meeting at 7:38 P.M.
