EAST WINDSOR VETERANS COMMISSION
MEETING MINUTES
for
Thursday, February 1, 2007
OPENING:
Warren Wenz, Chairman, opened this meeting at 7:00 P.M. at the East Windsor Town Hall.  There were eight commission members in attendance: Warren Wenz, Ron Hwalek, Mark Simmons, Dave Malo, James Barton, George Butenkoff, Don Brown, and Ernie Teixeira.  
Absent: William Abbe Sr., Rick Webster, Nicholas Macsata, Ken Crouch, and Fred McDermott.

Chairman Warren Wenz led the Commission in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

SECRETARY’S REPORT:     The minutes of the January 4, 2007, meeting were reviewed by those present.
MOTION: Ron Hwalek moved to accept the previous meeting’s minutes as submitted.  This was seconded by Dave Malo and carried unanimously.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Ron Hwalek presented the current treasurer’s report for review.  Ron answered several questions about the report.  


STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony Committee-
        Chairman Warren Wenz appointed Jim Barton as the Memorial Day parade coordinator.

Memorial Day Poster/Essay Contest Committee-
        Warren Wenz reported that he has met with Acting Superintendent, Tim Howes, of East Windsor Public Schools and has received approval and support for our Memorial Day poster/essay contest.  Warren will have the contest entry forms distributed to the East Windsor schools on or about March 1, 2007.
Scholarship Committee-
        No report                                                                                                         

Veterans Cemetery Project-
          A discussion was held concerning further landscape plans for our East Windsor Veterans Cemetery.  Placement and design of a new boundary fence, memorial plaques, decorative pillars and memorial walkway were some of the items discussed.  Also talked about was a $1,000.00 donation received from the Leone family for use in the cemetery.

Veterans Day Road Race Committee-
        This year’s race is planned for Saturday, November 10, 2007.  Ron Hwalek presented the contract he received from “Platt” race timing service.  Warren Wenz presented a letter he sent to WDRC AM radio personality Brad Davis inviting him to attend our road race.

OTHER BUSINESS:

        George Butenkoff reminded those present that East Windsor Community Day planning meetings will begin February 13, 2007.
       Warren Wenz presented an invitation to all veterans for a “Lobby Day” meeting to discuss issues affecting all Veterans.  The meeting will be held March 1, 2007, from 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM at the Legislative Office Building room 2-D in Hartford.
        Warren Wenz presented a letter composed by East Windsor citizen, Teresa Richard of 17 David Dr. which she had sent to the  Executive Board of the “Stoughton Ridge” development where she resides. Teresa has a son serving in the war overseas and has been told by the “Stoughton Ridge Executive Board” to remove her American Flag and Blue Service Star Flag from her display at her home.  After a brief discussion the commission, by unanimous consent, agreed that we should issue a letter in support of Teresa Richard’s position to be sent to the “Stoughton Ridge Executive Board”.

East Windsor Town Hall

ADJOURNMENT

        Hearing of no further business to come before the commission, Chairman Warren Wenz asked for a motion to adjourn.  George Butenkoff moved to adjourn this meeting and this was seconded by Jim Barton.  The motion carried unanimously.  The Chairman closed the meeting at 7:44 P.M.
