MEETING MINUTES
for
Thursday, December 7, 2006
OPENING:
Warren Wenz, Chairman, opened this meeting at 7:00 P.M. at the East Windsor Town Hall. There were nine commission members in attendance: Warren Wenz, Ron Hwalek, Mark Simmons, Dave Malo, Rick Webster, George Butenkoff, Ernie Teixeira, James Barton, and Ken Crouch.
Absent: William Abbe Sr., Nicholas Macsata, Don Brown, Fred McDermott, and Linda Roberts
Chairman Warren Wenz led the Commission in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony Committee-
No report
Memorial Day Poster/Essay Contest Committee-
Warren Wenz asked those present to think about a new theme idea for our Memorial Day essay contest for 2007.
Scholarship Committee-
No report
Veterans Cemetery Project-
A complimentary letter received from Dan Burnham of the East Windsor Cemetery Association regarding the recent roadway addition to our cemetery was circulated to the members present.

Veterans Day Road Race Committee-
George Butenkoff asked that we consider ideas to increase our race day participation. We did experience a fewer number of racers this year compared to last year. Rick Webster said that he found a way to allow our race times to be entered for the Manchester Thanksgiving Day race. This may increase our number of racers.
Several suggestions were made from those present for advertising our race better.
The 2007 5K race is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, November 10, 2007.
MOTION: George Butenkoff moved to expend $80.00 from our treasury to place an ad for our 2007 race in “Runners World” magazine. This was seconded by Ron Hwalek and carried unanimously.
Election of E.W.V.C. officers for 2007-
MOTION: George Butenkoff moved to elect the current officers at their same positions for 2007. This was seconded by Jim Barton and carried unanimously.
The E.W.V.C. Officers for 2007 are Chairman – Warren Wenz, Vice Chairman – Ernie Teixeira, Treasurer – Ron Hwalek and Secretary – Mark Simmons.
MOTION: George Butenkoff moved to schedule all of our regular meeting on the first Thursday of each month. This was seconded by Jim Barton and carried unanimously.
OTHER BUSINESS:
George Butenkoff mentioned that the head librarian for East Windsor High School, Mr. Peter Anderson, is conducting ongoing recorded interview sessions with veterans for a COX Cable show and for historical documentation. Mr. Anderson can be reached at 623-3361 for those veterans interested.

ADJOURNMENT
Hearing of no further business to come before the commission, Chairman Warren Wenz asked for a motion to adjourn. George Butenkoff moved to adjourn this meeting and this was seconded by Jim Barton. The motion carried unanimously. The Chairman closed the meeting at 7:54 P.M.
