EAST WINDSOR VETERANS COMMISSION
MINUTES
Thursday, January 5, 2006
OPENING:
Warren Wenz, Chairman, opened this meeting at 7:00 P.M. at the East Windsor Town Hall. There were seven commission members in attendance: Warren Wenz, Ron Hwalek, George Butenkoff, Dave Malo, James Barton, Ken Crouch, and Mark Simmons.
Absent: Fred McDermott, Ernie Teixeira, Rick Webster, John Lichatz, William Abbe Sr. and Linda Roberts. Dan Burnham of the East Windsor Cemetery Commission was also present as a guest.
Chairman Warren Wenz led the Commission in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
SECRETARY’S REPORT: The recorded minutes of the December 1, 2005, meeting were reviewed by those present.
MOTION: George Butenkoff moved to accept the meeting’s minutes as submitted. This was seconded by Ron Hwalek and carried 5 in favor and 1 abstention.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Ron Hwalek submitted a treasurer’s report for all present to review. Ron answered several questions and comments made by those present.
MOTION: George Butrenkoff moved to accept the treasurer’s report as submitted. This was seconded by Mark Simmons and carried unanimously.
MOTION: Ron Hwalek moved to transfer $6,000.00 from the “revolving fund” into the “trust fund”. This was seconded by Ken Crouch and carried unanimously.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony Committee-

Memorial Day Poster/Essay Contest Committee-

Scholarship Committee-
Veterans Cemetery Project-
A proposed landscape map for our cemetery was made available for those present to review. With Dan Burnham’s helpful assistance, the commission reviewed the plans in detail and made suggestions. A suitable cemetery driveway was agreed to be a priority.

MOTION: George Butenkoff moved to install an improved roadway along the outer perimeter of the existing cemetery property, to pass in front of the existing flag pole & monument, and reconnect with the same roadway at the cemetery entrance. Ron Hwalek seconded this motion and it carried unanimously.
Warren thanked Dan Burnham for his valuable insight and assistance.
Veterans Day Road Race Committee-
Warren Wenz tabled a discussion on race day T-shirt designs for a later meeting. Warren opened a discussion on the day to hold our 7th annual 5K race. This year Veterans Day, falls on Saturday, November 11, 2006. The consensus of the Commission was to try to hold our race on Veterans Day if possible. Our research found that we would not be able to have “Platt Timing” with their computer timing chip service on this date.
MOTION: George Butenkoff moved to retain “Platt Timing” services for our annual 5K race and to hold our race this year on Saturday, November 4th, 2006. This was seconded by Ron Hwalek and carried unanimously.
Warren Wenz said that he would notify Rick Webster.
OTHER BUSINESS:
Warren read a thank you letter received from the “Salvation Army’ thanking us for our donation. Warren tabled a discussion on creating an alternate form of EWVC membership.

ADJOURNMENT
Hearing of no further business to come before the commission, Chairman Warren Wenz asked for a motion to adjourn. George Butenkoff moved to adjourn this meeting and a second was made by Jim Barton. The motion carried unanimously. The Chairman closed the meeting at 8:05 P.M.
