EAST WINDSOR VETERANS COMMISSION
MINUTES
for
Thursday, December 1, 2005

OPENING:
Warren Wenz, Chairman, opened this meeting at 7:05 P.M. at the East Windsor Town Hall.  There were nine commission members in attendance: Warren Wenz, Ernie Teixeira, Ron Hwalek, George Butenkoff, Dave Malo, John Lichatz, Rick Webster, Ken Crouch, and Mark Simmons.   
Absent:  Fred McDermott, James Barton, William Abbe Sr. and Linda Roberts

Chairman Warren Wenz led the Commission in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

SECRETARY’S REPORT: The recorded minutes of the November 3, 2005, meeting were reviewed by those present.
         MOTION: Ernie Teixeira moved to accept the meeting’s minutes as submitted.  This was seconded by Ron Hwalek and carried unanimously.

TREASURER’S REPORT:  No report
        
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony Committee-
        No report

Memorial Day Poster/Essay Contest Committee-
        No report

Scholarship Committee-
        A matter of the male recipient not receiving his scholarship check was discussed.  Warren Wenz & Ron Hwalek explained the problem and how it was rectified.  The commission agreed to have EWHS handle the issuing of the scholarship awards from our commission in the future.

Veterans Cemetery Project-
           A proposed landscape map for our cemetery was made available for those present to review.  The commission reviewed the plans in detail and made suggestions.  The commission agreed to invite a member of the East Windsor Cemetery Commission to our next meeting for input and guidance.

Veterans Day Road Race Committee-
        Our 6th annual 5K road race was a great success this year with a record 262 registered runners participating.
        Rick Webster, Race Day Coordinator, and the commission discussed several suggestions for improvements to our race day program.  Rick said that he would begin a search for a race timer for next year and get back to us with price quotes.  All agreed that the “race chip” timing device is important for our runners and that we should try to hold our 7th annual 5K race on Veterans Day, Saturday, November 11, 2006.
        Ken Crouch asked that all commission members bring in a sample drawing or suggestion for a new logo design for our race day T-shirts for our next meeting.
        Warren Wenz read a thank you letter sent by First Selectman Linda Roberts to all race sponsors.  The letter was sent along with a copy of the race day ad booklet.  
        Ken Crouch discussed ideas on how to show our appreciation for those who volunteered their time to help the commission out on race day.
MOTION: George Butenkoff moved to send a framed certificate of appreciation to all those who volunteered help at our race day event.  This was seconded by John Lichatz and carried unanimously.

OTHER BUSINESS:
Election of E.W.V.C. Officers for 2006
MOTION: George Butenkoff moved to keep the same slate of officers for the year 2006.
This motion was seconded by Ken Crouch and carried 8 in favor and 1 opposed.
The EWVC Officers for the year 2006 will be Chairman: Warren Wenz, Vice Chairman: Ernie Teixeira, Treasurer: Ron Hwalek and Secretary: Mark Simmons.
        Warren asked those present to look for a replacement for resigning member, Phill Godeck.

ADJOURNMENT

        Hearing of no further business to come before the commission, Chairman Warren Wenz asked for a motion to adjourn.  George Butenkoff moved to adjourn this meeting and a second was made by Ron Hwalek.  The motion carried unanimously.  The Chairman closed the meeting at 8:10 P.M.
