Before a vote was taken on this motion, there was a discussion between the Police Commissioners and Noreen Farmer, representing the Board of Finance, regarding the Board of Finance oversight of the expenditures of the various departments in Town which includes the Police Department.  Commissioner Barton felt that if the Board of Finance was going to be reviewing the budget on a monthly/quarterly basis that there would be no need for the Police Commissioners to review the budget.  Ms. Farmer responded to this by stating that it was up to the Board of Police Commissioners to keep track of how much of the budget was being spent and  if money was needed to request same from the Board of Finance.   After additional discussion between the Board Members, Ms. Farmer and Chief DeMarco; it was a suggestion that the Chief write a letter to the Board of Finance detailing why the variable overtime is so high and what steps he is and will be taking to correct this deficit.
