The regular meeting was called to order by Chairman Hayes at 6:05 p.m. in the Cafeteria of the Broad Brook Elementary School, 14 Rye Street, Broad Brook, CT.
PRESENT: Chairman Hayes, Commissioners Simpkins, Szymanski and Waltiere;
Park Director Green, Groundsman Tetro and Mary Lou Morell from the Park Office.
ABSENT: None
GUESTS: None
ESTABLISHMENT OF QUORUM:
A quorum was established as four commission members were present.
PUBLIC PARTICIPATION:
None.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Minutes of the May 12, 2008 are not available at this time.
ADDED AGENDA ITEM:
Under New Business: East Windsor Youth Basketball
OLD BUSINESS:
a. Ordinance Repeal of Recreational Vehicles in Town Parks
Wording to be added to signage at parks that recreation vehicles; i.e.:
snowmobiles, ATV’s (all terrain vehicles), dirt bikes are prohibited on park grounds.
b. Dog Park
Proposal was approved by the Inlands/Wetlands Commission, and will be presented to the Planning and Zoning Commission on June 10, 2008 and with their approval will be presented to the Board of Selectmen on June 17, 2008.

NEW BUSINESS:
a. Financial Accounts Review
The current Budget by Department for May 30, 2008 was distributed and reviewed.
b. 2007-2008 Budget Year -End
Discussion took place regarding funds available for expenditure in the current budget year which closes June 30, 2008. Director Green and Groundsman Tetro conveyed their needs and wishes to expend these funds.
c. Park Director’s Report
Director Green reported that the second Budget Referendum vote will take place on June 10, 2008. $85,000 was removed from the CIP Budget for 2008-2009. If this budget proposal does not pass, additional cuts may be made from the Department operating budget in the areas of electricity, site improvement, and dues/subscriptions/training.
Director Green reported that the summer programs have been scheduled. There has been an increase in requests for financial assistance/payment plans for our camp programs. A grant from Sam’s Club has been awarded in the amount of $500. Director Green would like to use this money for camper scholarships and will discuss this need with Sam’s Club.
Director Green informed the Commission of a new gymnastic school coming to town on South Main Street just south of the High School. Parks and Recreation will be jointly running programs there such as a gymnastic camp and cheerleading camp in August.
The East Windsor Park was opened for its first weekend of the season and took in $1,200 in gate fees consisting of season passes and admission fees.
Requirements for obtaining a season pass consist of two forms of identification, one being a photo ID and the other stating address such as a utility bill, tax bill, automobile registration. These requirements have been posted outside the gate house at the Park and also on the town’s web site.

NEW BUSINESS/c) Park Director’s Report (continued):
Director Green stated she is still looking for someone to close the gate at East Windsor Park at the end of each evening’s softball game. A Commissioner had a suggestion which Director Green will pursue.
The CIT Program (Counselor-in-Training) has 4 to 5 applicants.
Orientation for summer staff will take place at EWP on Thursday, June 12th at 5:00 p.m.

d. Groundsman’s Report
Groundsman Tetro reported that Harp Mechanical will be installing a
ventilation system in the snack bar at East Windsor Park tomorrow.
Groundsman Tetro informed the Commission that the basketball court at Prospect Hill Park has been repaired and the basketball court at East Windsor Park will be repaired shortly.

MISCELLANEOUS:
Discussion took place for recognition for years of service of the former Chairman of the Parks and Recreation Commission who resigned this spring.
