ELDERLY COMMISSION MEETING
REGULAR MEETING: April 23, 2007 at 11:30 am
East Windsor Town Hall
Meeting Minutes of April 23, 2007:
I. Meeting called to order at 11:50am, by Claire Badstubner, Chairman.
*Note: Meeting was held although there was no quorum. No voting permitted.
II. Attendance:
Present Members: Claire Badstubner (Chairman), Elizabeth Burns (Municipal Agent), Catherine Drouin
Absent Members: Madeleine Thompson, Trevor Bray
III. Previous Minutes:
A) Regular Meeting 2/26/07 and 3/26/07
No discussion of meeting or acceptance of minutes due to lack of quorum.
IV. Members Update:
Ms. Badstubner has received Ms. Boutin’s official letter of resignation.
Members are actively seeking a replacement candidate for the commission.
V. Transportation Services to Adult Daycare – Information/Data:
Survey Results: Two surveys received – one would require transportation to Felician Sisters and the other to Enfield Adult Day Care Center.
Due to the lack of response and/or interest from the general public, present commission members agreed that the transportation issue will not proceed any further. At this time, Ms. Burns will present a report of the commission’s findings to the Board of Selectman (will request presentation for the 2nd BOS May meeting). Ms. Burns’ presentation will consist of the following key points:
· Will advise that commission presented opportunity to public (via survey) for feedback on adult day care transportation needs. BOS will be informed that only two were received back.
· Will present a cost comparison between Allied Transportation vs. Enfield transportation vs. EW Dial-a-Ride.
Commission members briefly reviewed the cost comparisons of the above mentioned options. Allied Transportation would cost approximately $140.00/day. If Enfield agreed to expand their routes to East Windsor the cost would be approximately $161.00/day ($20.09/hr plus $0.54/mile). Pam Brown (Director of Senior Services, Enfield) informed Ms. Burns that if, and when, EW decides to proceed with adult day care transportation, a proposal would be sent to Enfield’s Town Manager and Council for final consideration. The final cost comparison, EW Dial-a-Ride, would cost approximately $20-35K/year.
VI. Future Issues/Topics
A brief discussion began regarding “what do seniors want?”. Members discussed making this the focus at the next meeting(s). Discussed also involving the nursing department at local colleges to “recruit” nursing students, (those with senior projects), to help find out what seniors do want.
Ms. Burns and Ms. Badstubner agreed that a May meeting will not be scheduled. Our regular meeting date falls on a holiday. Next meeting will be as scheduled, June 25, 2007. Memo to be sent to Town Clerk for posting.
VII. Adjournment:
Chairman adjourned meeting at 12:30pm.
Respectfully Submitted,
Christine Pellegrini
