SPECIAL MEETING/SOLID WASTE COLLECTION PROGRAM

CALL TO ORDER
Chair Kehoe called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. He announced the exit locations in accordance with Connecticut General Statutes § 29-381, after which the Council joined him in the pledge of allegiance.
Minority Leader Donald Pitkin asked for a point of personal privilege explaining that his casual attire was due to his stay at Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Chair Kehoe gave a brief overview of the proposed new solid waste collection program entitled “Pay-As-You-Throw” (PAYT). The Chair stated that PAYT would probably not be implemented in the upcoming budget, but that it may be given consideration for the future, so this session could provide useful information regarding this program.
Billy Taylor, Director of Public Works, along with Mayor Currey, summarized the single-stream recycling program that would start in July.
Also on hand for the power-point presentation was Michael LaPorte, Regional Manager for WasteZero, the company that would supply the garbage bags for PAYT.
