OLD BUSINESS

Assistant Town Engineer

MOTION  By Don Pitkin
                seconded by Marc Weinberg
to remove from the table the revised job description of
Assistant Town Engineer.
                Motion carried 3/0.

Steve Bielenda, Director of Human Resources, stated that since the last Committee meeting, the Union (CSEA, Local 2001, – formerly entitled M.E.U. Local 760) and the Administration have agreed to changes to the job description of Assistant Town Engineer.  Specifically, a college degree is “mandatory”, but the professional engineer certification is now classified as “desirable”.  Also, ADA language has been added.  Discussion followed on the general description of the job.  Councillor Pitkin took exception to the word “considerable” that is used to describe the knowledge needed to perform this job.  The administration agreed to delete that word from the revised job description.

MOTION  By Marc Weinberg
seconded by Don Pitkin
to recommend that the Town Council approve the revised job description for Assistant Town Engineer as attached to and addressed in a memo from Steven Bielenda, Director of Human Resources, to Melody Currey, Mayor dated August 17, 2009, with the following change to the first page of the job description under General Description:
“The work requires that the employee have considerable knowledge, skill, and ability in every phase of municipal civil engineering work.”
Motion carried 3/0.
