VETERAN’S AFFAIRS COMMISSION
                                                 
REGULAR MEETING FEBRUARY 4, 2008
                                                                                     
                                                                       
1.      Call to Order –Bernie called the regular meeting of the Veteran’s Affairs Commission
        to order at 7:04 pm on February 4, 2008 in Town Council Chambers. 
        A. Pledge of Allegiance

        B. Roll Call - PRESENT: Dominic Fulco, Sr., Kirk Allison, Ch. Bernie Corona, Arden      Passaro, Roger Pelletier, Stanley deMello, Paul Barry.

        EXCUSED: Mary-Ann Roczynski, William Miller

2.      Approval of Minutes from January 7, 2007 – Minutes from the last meeting were
        reviewed by the Commission.  Roger Pelletier made a motion to accept the minutes,
        seconded by Dominic Fulco.  The minutes were approved as read.

3. Old Business

        A.      The Commission discussed coverage of the office hours at Town Hall for the
                month of February.  Bernie set coverage for February as follows:
                        Feb. 11th – Bernie Corona and Arden Passaro – in the 2nd Fl Conf. Room
                        from 10am-12noon
                        Feb. 11th – Kirk Allison and Roger Pelletier – in the 2nd Fl Conf. Room
                        from 10am-12noon

        B.      Paul Barry updated the Commission on efforts to bring the Traveling Wall to             Wickham Park in October of 2008.  The dates will be from Oct. 16-19th.  They
                are working the possibility of getting the Vet Express to be there also.  Paul          wanted to know if it is possible to have a bus transport residents to Wickham           Park who don’t have access to their own transportation; Dominic will check with                 CT Transit to see if they can provide a bus.  Other details such as getting the                 Marine Corp marching band are still being worked on; more information will be            provides as it becomes available.

4. New Business

        A.      Dominic read an article to the Commission on how police are being trained to            recognize post combat stress disorder.  They are trying to keep vets from being
                put through the penal system.  There was open discussion on how the
                Commission should find out if the Town knows about this and if not, how the
                Commission might be able to aid the Police Department in implementing some
                sort of program.  Dominic will bring article to the Police Chief and ask his
                thoughts, or possibly get the Chief to speak at one of the meetings.

5. Adjournment – Dominic Fulco made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Roger Pelletier.  Bernie Corona adjourned the meeting at 7:54 p.m.
