1.      Call to Order - Bernie called the regular meeting of the Veteran's Affairs Commission
to order at 7:03 pm on January 7, 2008 in Town Council Chambers.

        A. Pledge of Allegiance

        B.      Roll Call - PRESENT: Dominic Fulco, Sr., Kirk Allison, Ch. Bernie Corona,               Mary-Ann Roczynski, Roger Pelletier, William Miller, Paul Barry.

        EXCUSED: Arden Passaro

        ABSENT: Stanley deMello,

2.      Approval of Minutes from December 3, 2007 - Minutes from the last meeting were
reviewed by the Commission.  Dominic Fulco made a motion to accept the minutes,         seconded by Bill Miller.  The minutes were approved as read.

3.      Old Business -

        A.      Mary-Ann had been trying to contact Channel 5 to tape our committee
meetings, and ask if they could interview Bernie so that the residents of East          Hartford know what the Commission is about and how we can assist them.                  The clerk will leave the message for Channel 5 in the Mayor's Office for her to                 contact Bernie.

        B.      Mary-Ann to forward the links to be added to the Commission's web page to the           clerk.  The links will guide viewers to other sites containing veteran's                        information.

        C.      Paul Barry confirmed that the contract has been signed to bring the Traveling           Wall to Wickham Park in October of 2008.  Other details still need to be                        worked out.  He will provide more information as it becomes available.

4.      New Business -

        A.      Mary-Ann Roczynski, Commission Secretary, will be out of attendance at the              Commission meetings until June 2008 because of a conflict in her schedule.              She will, however, be able to keep the evening hours at Town Hall on the 2nd            Thursday of each month.

        B.      Paul Barry informed the commission of a clarification to an article published in                the Hartford Courant regarding grave markers for veterans. Head stones will not                 be provided by the State, but they will provide some type of marker (i.e. and           emblem or flag) that can be affixed to a headstone.  State has not made                         progress on this yet, but it will be coming in the future.
        C.      Commission discussed changes that they would like to make effective in 2008.

                1)      To change picture on regular meeting minutes - would like to make it the
                        Town seal.

                2)      Save money on postage by mailing the previous meeting minutes along                     with the agenda for the next meeting.

        D.      Mary-Ann confirmed that on June 13-15, 2008 Bushnell Park will present "The
Healing Fields," a display of flags honoring veterans. She passed out a flyer for               those who would like to purchase a flag.

5.      Adjournment - Paul Barry made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Roger
Pelletier.  Bernie Corona adjourned the meeting at 7:54 p.m.

Minutes respectfully submitted by: Tatia Lewis, Clerk
