VETERAN'S AFFAIRS COMMISSION TOWN COUNCIL CHAMBERS REGULAR MEETING DECEMBER 3, 2007
1. Call to Order - The regular meeting of the Veteran's Affairs Commission was called to order at 7:00 pm on December 3, 2007 in Town Council Chambers. A. Pledge of Allegiance
B. Roll Call - PRESENT: Dominic Fulco, Sr., Stanley deMello, Arden Passaro, Ch. Bernie Corona, Mary-Ann Roczynski,William Miller, Paul Barry. ABSENT:Roger Pelletier, Kirk Allison
2. Approval of Minutes - The Secretary read the minutes from November 5, 2007 and the minutes were approved as read.
3. New Business - A. James A. LaCoursiere from the American Legion Department of Connecticut came before the Commission to present the Heroes to Hometown Program. Jim gave a brief description of how the program works, and how to get the community started and active in the program should East Hartford have a veteran returning from the war with a major disability. Jim also presented the Commission with a Heroes to Hometown Army Bear.
B. Bernie attended the public hearing on the Severely Disabled Veteran Exemption – severely disabled being defined as disabled veteran whom has lost a limb. The exemption would allow a severely disabled veteran, who was disabled on active duty to be exempted from paying property tax on their home. If the veteran resides with a parent, then the parent’s home would be tax exempt. C. Mary-Ann asked the Commission if they would like to have links on the Commission’s web page to link viewers to other sites containing veteran’s information. It was agreed on by the Commission andMary-Ann is to contact the webmaster for the Town of East Hartford website
on how to proceed.
D. Stan asked if it is possible for Channel 5 to tape our committee meetings, and if they could interview Bernie so that the residents of East Hartford know what the Commission is about and how we can assist them. Commission discussed, no action taken.
4. Adjournment - The meeting was adjourned at 7:59 p.m.
