VETERAN’S AFFAIRS COMMISSION

REGULAR MEETING JANUARY 7, 2013




1.      Call to Order: Chair Bernie Corona called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm.

2.      Roll Call:
Present: Bernie Corona, Kirk Allison, J. Roger Pelletier, Vincent Parys, Paul Barry, David Whalen
        
Excused: Linda Carrasquillo, Mary-Ann Roczynski, Timothy Siggia

3.      Approval of Minutes:
December 3, 2012  –  Upon a motion by Vinny seconded by Paul, the Commission voted to approve the minutes of the December 3, 2012 meeting. Motion carried.

4.      Old Business:
  • Bicentennial Square – Vinny wrote to the Mayor to see if she would be available to attend a joint meeting with the Patriotic Commission to discuss their ideas.  The Commission was informed by the clerk that the Mayor will attend the Patriotic Commission in March to hear from both Commissions.  
  • Veteran’s driver’s license designation in Connecticut – Dave had questions on the license designation.  Paul informed the Commission that although it is not officially on the books yet, veterans can receive the designation now but at an extra cost; the process is that the paperwork goes to the VA first for verification and then to the DMV.

5.      New Business:
  • Bernie passed a handout on: the veteran’s eligibility verification report.  
  • Paul informed the Commission that in the current legislative session they were trying to get Veterans Affairs to be a standing committee.

  • Adjournment – Upon a motion by Kirk seconded by Vinny, the Commission adjourned at 7:25 pm.
The next meeting will be February 4, 2013 in the Town Council Chamber.
